Explain it to me like I am 5! I have a shiny new dive light (Orcatorch D550) and the kit comes with a wrist lanyard and a bolt snap. What is the best way to attach both of these items? Is attaching the bolt snap to the lanyard just begging to lose the light? Should I use a split key ring to attach the bolt snap? Do I need to worry about the material of the key ring? Do I need to worry about the lanyard being loose?

I've used a dive light exactly once before and it was borrowed and I kept it on my wrist.

Are you using the torch as your primary or backup?

It will be my primary. I also have a backup that I need to figure out how to attach, but I don't even have a bolt snap for it yet. 😂

Would a nylon zip tie be appropriate for attaching the bolt snap?

Nylon zip tie will break. Use braided nylon line. Like other poster said google how to attach a bolt snap to a backup light.

Search on YouTube for how to attach a bolt snap to a dive light.
I've watched a couple of videos that say to use a nylon string and a lighter to melt the ends. that sounds complicated and not particularly sturdy. Is that really the best way? I haven't seen one where they also use a wrist lanyard. Should I just do both? Can I just get an appropriate nylon string at Walmart? 😂 I'm feeling very clueless.

No you want a braided nylon line. I’d suggest buying one spool they are relatively cheap.
