Reports are still coming in from Egypt, but it seems that luxury Red Sea liveaboard Scuba Scene is on fire.

The 43-metre vessel, which is headed up by veteran guides Elke Bojanowski and Ahmed Fadel, apparently did not have any guests on board, but we have no news reference the crew at this time.

UPDATE: We have heard from several sources that everyone made it safely off the vessel, which is described as a ‘total loss'.

do you have contact with them? Our father was on as well.... He called us from someone elses phone... we are tryingto get ahold of him...

We have family on ship as well!... We are trying to find out how to contact him... does anyone have any information as to where they are being housed? like a hotel or something?

There is no way that I'd board a cruise boat or liveaboard without my own Smoke & CO alarm, but then I won't sleep anywhere without mine. So many hotels don't have one.

Update: We’ve just had confirmation directly from a passenger who was onboard Scuba Scene that all guests and crew managed to evacuate the boat and are safe and well. Thank goodness

Our source has kindly given Scubaverse permission to share this first hand account of what happened:
“We had just left Hurghada port when I believe a fire began in the engine room. The crew were fantastic, initially we mustered and then evacuated onto one of the zodiacs, the crew then evacuated onto a second zodiac. The crew were calm and professional. They tried hard to control the fire. All guests and crew safe. Now being looked after at a hotel in Hurghada. My heart goes out to them and their families.”

All Star Liveaboards posted this yesterday on FB:
"Scuba Scene liveaboard had a fire in the engine room this morning just outside Hurghada. Guests and crew were evacuated to safety. No injuries were reported. We are currently assisting our guests that were onboard. All guests are being transferred to a hotel and have been given funds for necessities. If you have an upcoming reservation on Scuba Scene, please bear with us. We will be reaching out in the coming days."

I was booked on the Scuba Scene for October 2023. Will see what happens on that booking...

Seems an almost common occurrence in the Red Sea. I wonder what their maritime laws are like vs other countries
