Round Lake anyone? Needs infrastructure (platforms etc) but eminently doable.

I forgot to mention yesterday that Dutch is the only place I've been able to swim through an underwater forest of what I remember to be pine trees, with needles still on them. Don't think I was narked.... I remember that area being near that small concrete pump house building, or whatever that was. I only went there a few times, but enjoyed each time. And I got to test my endurance for 41 degree water wearing a rented 7mm farmer john wetsuit and my usual Florida half hood, booties and gloves. I made it for 90 minutes some how, but was quite cold and past ready to get out.

How about PADI buys it, making an investment to support the NE diving community? I can dream…

Whats the cost? I wonder if the non diving locals would approve such with a likely tax increase resulting.
It’s more than just a dive site, its a general water recreation spot. Including stuff like people doing family reunions and company picnics. (I’m originally from what is now warehouse-land and happen to be visiting now. It’s the lead article in the Allentown paper today.)

Never dived Dutch but had long hoped to be able to give it a try. I spent my college years in the Lehigh Valley, but wasn't a diver back then, just a penniless college student.

Even I heard of Dutch Springs all the way over the puddle in Croatia. Really a shame such a popular site closes.

I was contemplating going up there to do the rescue diver course while one of my son's did AOW. Might have to accelerate the planning.

Belated credit to the NYC SeaGypsies for tipping me off to this issue. [original post updated]

I just saw a further report on the NYCSG group list that one of the members discovered a change.org petition that has been started. So passing it on: Sign the Petition

What does such a petition do? To whom does it go? What does it ask for?
As just an expression of group "woe is me" it seems more like high school than something that will initiate a desired action....

Money and/or government (in)action are the two prime movers in determining the final outcome.

The petition is, yes, an expression of personal discomfort regarding the situation. If a couple hundred folks sign, it is probably going mean little. If, however, many hundreds sign, it reflects a large, interested user base, and that may help to influence governmental action.

The news is just now spreading. and people are starting to consider how to organize to retain this as a training facility.
