So I have a spare regulator that I use for tank transfill using this method:
Tank Equalizer for $2.50

The unit has:
1st stage
1 HP hose

Now I want to repurpose this to duo use as a simple tank pressure checker, by just attaching a spare spg onto the HP.

It works great! Except there's no way to depressurize it....

Is there anything that can bleed this thing, either inline between the 1st stage and the Hp hose, or onto some other ports of the 1st stage ?

This guy looks promising but it doesn't look it fits.

Thanks!

What about a REALLY cheap 2nd stage? Possibly something off the used market, or one of those unbranded ones which ship from china.

Another option would be to build something which looks more like a fill-whip for about $40, which has a bleed-valve and pressure-gauge.
I haven't tested this yet, because the parts haven't arrived, but it should work.... I hope, otherwise I might have a $40 paper-weight. This is of course for tanks with DIN valves, although for yoke valves you should be able to find similar parts.

This is exactly what occurred to me last night when I'm laying in bed!!
I do have a beat-up 2nd stage that's falling apart. Might as well use that until it falls apart.

But for the sake of DIY, I might try one of the following:

1. an inflator hose ($0 if you have one laying around, ~ $20) + the air nozzle references above. ($13)
this comes to $13~$33

2.
installed on a LP port
adapter $4 + valve $2.5 = $6.5 excluding shipping

3.
  • same orb npt adapter as above $4
  • $14 Thumb Screw Adjustment Exhaust Port Flow Control: from grainger
installed on a LP port
This one comes down to $18 excluding shipping

WARNING: I don't know if combination 3 will work because I'm not sure if the flow control valve can be closed completely (thus functioning as a drainage/bleed valve)
But the good thing is both of these are sold by Grainger and I have one nearby.

If you have an old inflator-hose, just use that. And just use an allen-key to press into the hose so you depress the schrader-valve. This is what we do on suit-inflation hoses.

A compressor blow-gun is another option. The advantage of this, is it's a useful thing to have anyway.

If you were in the same-locale, I'd just give you an old inflator hose. Maybe ask at a dive-shop if they have any junk ones.

The drain-screw valve would be small, which would be an advantage if size is a factor.

Thanks for the offer! Maybe I'll hit you up when I visit Texas!

This quiet a good idea and cheap too. And it turns my tank into a air blow gun for cleaning my keyboards....

Do you know what I need to connect this thing to a LP hose? I didn't see a spec for the inlet.
