Hi,

I am getting a second hand tank pod with the Type-A flow restrictor installed. I would like to use it on a short HP hose to minimize risk of it being mishandled (and the 1st stage). The short hose already has a flow restrictor on the 1st stage side...is the second one on the pod really needed? I can buy the kit if really needed or do you know if it is possible to find just the one type?

Thanks

Type-A is for direct connection of the POD. If it was possible to use the same for the hose end screwed into the 1st stage then there would not be a type-B required at all. Instead Suunto recommends type-B in the interface between the POD and the hose. I think they have a reason for it and hence do not simply advice swapping the position of the type-A in their manual.

Yes, I am aware of all that, I was just trying to understand if the issue could be slow reading or leaks, etc. Pity it seems hard to find just the one pin!

When connecting a transmitter to a hose one needs a spool. Most any spool will work. The purpose of the spool is to provide a sealed connection between the transmitter and the hose which swivels. It is no different than with an SPG.

To my knowledge only Suunto makes use of flow restrictor when connecting a transmitter directly to a first stage.

yes that makes sense, I expected the flow restrictor to be "built-in" the sensor and use a standard swivel like any other pressure gauge. But it looks like even with the swivel you need this type-b restrictor when using a hose, I may have found a fried who has one he doesn't use. I am afraid to mount it directly on the 1st stage as sometimes gear is not handled too gently when lifting it on the boat in choppy conditions, etc

You need the spool for the connection between the POD and the hose to be sealed. The hose connection on the POD or SPG side of the hose is open without a spool, regardless of the o-ring on the pod.

Don't know about Ireland, but over here you can buy a spool at just about any decent dive shop.
Also available on amazon if needed. link

As far as I know first stage already has a restrictor built in. At least my first stages (Poseidon) have. So no additional restrictor is needed.

Perhaps not all the first stage restrictors are restricting enough? You can check this in a very easy way: leave HP port open, open tank, check air flow.

Unless the reg is fifty years old, what do you see in here nothing, good?

Hole sizes vary so then do shunt values, so maybe Suunto doesn't want
their stuff shunted by the far too quick, too much fast air valve crackers
