Did you see the new Nautilus COVID testing requirements that came out today? They have made the 7-day negative test voluntary, but not mandatory. They are now requiring you must take an antigen test at See Creatures at 4 p.m. the day of departure and for San Ignacio the day before departure. They are providing the antigen test for free.

Thank goodness. It’s about time they do this! The last 2 trips I went (last month to Cocos & last week to Socorro), I had to cough out $130, spending some time to get the PCR swab test done & anxiously waiting for the test result. No fun!

I’ll be honest. This new rule worries me more than any of the other changes/precautions because of the low but real risk of a false positive. The time frame is so short there would seem to be no option for validation of the result by retesting. So all the precautions I take, even testing prior to the trip, is useless if that one test is falsely positive.

My championship fishing tournament in Arizona is Saturday and Sunday, May 22-23, so I can't afford to be hung up. It might actually be more cost effective for me to forfeit what I've paid and count it as a bad loss, rather than take the risk. I'll keep my mind open until March when the next payment is due, but if Covid things progress in the same way, I may not be there...

I am holding off on the plane ticket for now and may contact Nautilus about my concern. I think like us you are arriving early so I wonder if there is the option of testing the day before so can validate by retesting the next day if needed. The chance of two false positive test in 24 hours would approach zero.

Forewarning on plane tickets. They are offering cancellation, but not refunds. They will give you travel credit for a future date. I just got that information from Southwest, so it likely applies to other airlines...

Yep, Delta still owes me for their cancellation of a Bonaire trip...

In for a penny, in for a pound. A lot can (obviously) happen between now and then. I am still hoping for a vaccine pass at some point in the near future.

You guys worry too much. If you follow the protocols, treat everyone as if they have the virus, you’ll be fine. I went to Cocos last month and to Socorro last week on the same boat that we are going to be on in May. Everyone was fine. We wore masks whenever we were in < 6’ distance with each other while in the boat. The guests were split into 2 groups at different meal time to keep the dining room 10 guests or less.
