Nit-picking time... I've searched around and can't find a DSMB that has all the features I want. Thing is, I don't think I'm being particularly fussy, either; I've had all these features on one DSMB or another, but they're not available in one single package:
  • seams on both edges (for even rolling)
  • open-bottom style with internal baffle
  • metal one-way inflator valve
  • large-diameter, low-profile OPV
  • OPV located toward bottom
  • small internal weight on bottom
  • mesh pouch for storing chemstick
  • clear tube at top for deploying chemstick
  • 2" radar-reflector strip
  • D-ring at tube bottom (no V-straps)
  • bungee closure on roll-up (no velcro)
  • plastic D-ring on top (for hanging to dry)
Why is this so difficult?

1. Zoom call to Shenzhen.
2. Spec DSMB and make xxx unit minimum order.
3. Receive units, realize you need onsite quality control, sell acceptable units for a net loss of $x,xxx.
4. ?
5. Profit!

I'm close to your specs with the OMS 6ft model.

I sewed a loop of flat webbing at the top and keep a lightweight strobe tied off there. Personally, I think the chem-lite is dated but if I join a team and that's what they use I'll get on board.

You can cut off the velcro straps.

The OMS is still a miss because the OPV is small. I remember @custureri commenting that it means it requires a one off set of replacement parts. I agree with him but I had the OPV of two xDeep DSMBs wear a hole in the SMB because of the large OPV so there's a trade off.

Did you look at AP over in England?

TECLINE in Poland?

This is so difficult because I don't think you are operating with the same definition of "fussy" as the rest of the world. Your list is quite a tall order of very specific things such as a "metal one-way inflator valve", bungee closure, plastic D-ring on top, etc....in and of each of the options you desire there is no issue and that is not being fussy, but expecting the aggregate of all those features is setting the bar quite high.

I used to bicycle race and work as a mechanic...there was an expression about what was desired in a bike:
1. Light
2. Strong
3. Inexpensive

The saying goes you can have any two of three.

You are insisting on 12 unique features and are surprised you can't find one and don't consider yourself fussy?

Please.

I can certainly be frustrating when you can't find the specific piece of gear you are looking for. The OMS 6 ft model sounds like it might be a workable compromise....

Sorta like job-hunting:

1) Location
2) Salary
3) Job satisfaction

Or retirement:

1) Quality of life
2) Cost of living
3) Location

Pick any two and don't expect all three.

I am only aware of one SMB on the market that has a radar reflector built in. Do you mean SOLAS light reflective tape?

Perhaps so. I'm thinking of the reflective/refractive strip; I'd understood it to be radar-visible as well as visible-spectrum-visible, but I could be mistaken.

I would be surprised if it was.
