So, would I rather have a Mk2 with AI, or a Teric2 with GPS?
Gotta go with the Teric2 if the Mk2 uses non-PPS AI.
Otherwise, gotta go with the Teric2 if Garmin Customer service supports the Mk2.
I feel like the Mk2 would be my choice only if I didn't already have multiple PPS transmitters and two computers that receive them, and only if I didn't care about customer service, and only if I really wanted/needed the sports-watch features.
That's a lot of only ifs.
 
They're on a twinset. I bet the diver had a Shearwater on his other wrist...

Maybe Garmin's transmitter is still PPS internally but Garmin make the outside.

So the picture may represent a twinset with a transmitter to each tank with BOTH set up to send to the Garmin Mk2/MkII - which makes the most sense.

Of course, they might have the Garmin transmitter going to the Mk2/MkII and the other one going to another computer. This makes sense if the Garmin transmitter is not PPS compatible.

I bet it was a Shearwater to one transmitter on one side and Garmin setup on the other. Diving to compare as apples to apples as possible. To make sure, in the real world, that the one setup works just as well as the other. No or similar dropouts and showing the same tank pressure at all times.

Don’t know why it was doubles, though. Could have put both transmitters on one 1st stage and dived a single tank to do the same thing. Probably just what their test diver had/dives.

See the problem with having one transmitter to computer and the other to another computer is you aren't really comparing anything from the AI perspective and really doesn't give much more information that two separate dives with singles.

Edit: Oh wait... is there a manifold? I didn't think there was and the valves don't look aligned but now I think there might be a manifold. If there is at it is open, then yes, it would be perfect for an apples to apples comparison.
 
Or a more appropriate apples to apples comparison if the Garmin transmitter is not PPS compatible would be to put both transmitters on the one first stage and dive with the Garmin and the Shearwater.

I don't understand your post. I assume the Garmin transmitter is not PPS and the Garmin system must be tested separately from the comparator, say Shearwater. This could just as easily been done on one 1st stage and a single as the way it was done in the photo

Garmin has been completely offline for the last 15 hours or so. It has been reported as a ransomware attack.

It shows how dumb a completely online ecosystem is.

Fortunately, I can still pull my dive data from yesterdays dive directly from the watch and put into Subsurface but getting other data off the watch (Steps, Sleep, etc.) is not possible.

I guess this will delay any announcement of the Mk2/MkII even further.
 
Ugh - I feel so sorry for the folks at Garmin.
They have been really good to work with and very supportive of Subsurface. I was disappointed that they were adamant that Subsurface shouldn't try to connect with the Descent via BLE - but given how supportive they were in other ways, I didn't want to ignore their very strong request.
So unfortunately you need a PC/Laptop to get data off of a Descent MkI, but at least that always works, regardless of there being hiccups elsewhere in the internet.

No, it's only dumb to build an on-line ecosystem if you don't understand what you're doing. For all we know Garmin does, and their due diligence said that loss of revenue from X hours downtime is cheaper than the alternatives.

But in addition to consumer wearables and sportswear, flyGarmin has also been down today. This is Garmin's web service that supports the company's line of aviation navigational equipment.

Pilots have told ZDNet today that they haven't been able to download a version of Garmin's aviation database on their Garmin airplane navigational systems. Pilots need to run an up-to-date version of this database on their navigation devices as an FAA requirement. Furthermore, the Garmin Pilot app, which they use to schedule and plan flights, was also down today, causing additional headaches.
