$3.60/each AUD is roughly $2.40/each USD....that is still pretty pricey.

Given the cost of the item plus shipping and wait time, for me it would warrant learning to tie the bolt snap.

OP, the standard way (not the only way) to tie a bolt snap is using a square knot. Left over right followed by right over left. Not a whole lot to cockup, and almost infinitely less expensive than the product you are looking for.

If you have bungee already you can just tie an overhand knot using the ends of a length of bungee and the knot will serve the purpose of keeping in place the loop part that wraps around the spg hose and bolt snap.

Only providing the above as alternatives to achieve your aim as I am not one to dictate how someone should spend their money.

Bolt snaps, especially stainless steel ones, tend to be spendy....for me, I would lash them using line instead of zipper pulls/bungee just to reduce the chance of the attachment coming undone and losing my bolt snap(s).

After tying the square not it is recommend to cut the ends and ignite them and then squish the burning/melting ends to the knot...this helps keep the knot from untying with use....I go one step further and put a couple of drops of cyanoacrylate (super glue) on the knot. I have yet to have a knot come undone....occasionally the cave line or 2mm braided nylon maisonary line wears and begins to cut through but I have always found the issue before/after a dive and have not yet suffered a casualty with the line attaching my bolt snaps while in the water.

The super glue bit is a fantastic idea, i will try that when i get home later. thanks mate

G'day,

Anyone know what these things are called? Bungee loops? can't seem to find any online locally, could only find ones with the ball thingy at the end, can those be used to secure hoses and torches to bolt snaps?

Best answers get some cookies. thanks!

Dive Gear Express...DGX...

Butterfly Snap/hose Retainers...inexpensive/reusable...I've never had one break...

Much better than fiddling with line tying...

I'll pass on the cookies...too far to ship...

Those DGX loops do work well but as already mentioned by the OP, purchasing/shipping small items like that from the US to South East Asia is not cost effective.

side note to all: DGX and other US/EU sites don't work for me as im based in SEA, shipping would cost more than the item. A for effort guys! finally found out what the what-cha-ma-call-its are called!
Side note to OP: If you had a more informative location in your avatar it might prevent some spurious suggestions on where to get stuff....

The DGX loops are just a tech version of what's already commonly available just about anywhere, in all sorts of colors and designs. Do a search for bobble or ball hair ties, and you'll see. Sold in multiples.

Hey Zef...

The OP didn't say which island...I was assuming...NFLD...or maybe Manhattan...

Best...

...Exactly...''spurious''...I like that...vagueness causes spuriousness...

Yeah, I understand your frame of thought but I caught the following earlier on, as quoted from post #10 in this discussion thread:

"side note to all: DGX and other US/EU sites don't work for me as im based in SEA, shipping would cost more than the item. A for effort guys! finally found out what the what-cha-ma-call-its are called!"

I believe SEA is a SB accepted abbreviation for South East Asia.

Yes, i can understand that this issue can be resolved by just tying it up yourself. My only concern is that i am an idiot and im bound to cock something up :p. Bungees are far faster in my hands. Nevertheless, i'll give it a go.

Hi there OP, not sure if you have seen this video or not, I found it to be very helpful. After practicing the knot a couple of times, I can do it easily and correctly, and have showed a number of my friends how to do the same.

Dude shows how to bolt snaps onto a variety of common locations (reel, light, regulator, SPG) all using cave line. He also discusses to a few other ways to achieve the same, advocating against them. Basically, cave line has a nice combination of strength against normal wear and tear, plus it is still easy to cut with a knife or shears in an emergency scenario. The particular knot chosen is nice because it is stable -- ie it will not easily slide around on your hoses.

By the way, he uses the terms "knot" and "cross knot" a lot, which I found confusing. What he calls a simply "knot" I call an "overhand knot" and what he calls a "cross knot" I call a "reef knot" or "square knot." These are simple, common knots with a lot of regional names. Do make sure that you burn down the ends completely, and mush the excess plastic into the knot, so that the ends cannot back themselves up through the knot.

Hope this helps, dive safe.
