Then what’s it say for 32 and 100 - the way I look at that chart is a NDL table, says I can only go to 100 for 30 minutes....

What is the GUE deco plan for a dive to 100’ for 60 minutes? Using 32 and what do they say the deco gas should be? MultiDeco gives me 1,2,3 then 16 at 40-15’

No tables, just use multideco. We did the same when we were planning a dive during tech1.

I thought they use some kind of ratio deco?

Out of curiosity - we’re doing an explorer dive tomorrow, using 32, guessing average bottom depth of 100’, bottom time of 60 minutes - using 80 for deco. I use MultiDeco for planning, what’s GUE tables say I should do?

It would be a non-starter, since this is the basic forum; the Minimum Deco concept is similar to the No Deco Limit, so no deco gas; 80% is not a standard GUE gas; and the MD table or MD On-The-Fly table are designed for a max depth of 100 feet, the recommended limit of the Fundamentals or Recreational O/W 1 courses.

GUE uses Pragmatic Deco (above Fundamentals), which had it's roots way back in ratio deco.

It IS an NDL table - officially, MDL (no deco beyond the 1min every 10ft during ascent)

That would be a Tech 1 dive and you would run MultiDeco for whatever combination of standard gases you use - backgas would be 32% or 30/30 for this depth and you would deco with either 50% or 100%.

Presumbly for one dive per day. What about repetitive diving?

There also is an easy to remember rule for that based on surface interval duration.

Before we bang on the 80 bandwagon - there’s reasons for it - limited tanks, transfilling to reduce tank fill costs. This is Cozumel, I can stay deep for whatever time and go shallow to continue the dive - ideally we’d always use 50 to get on early but you can’t transfill that so...... it’s an experiment in progress.

All of that isn’t recreational diving. Hence the recreational tables and approaches (designed to work for max depth 30m non-deco dives) do not apply.

There are approaches for technical dives, deeper dives, longer dives, multi-gas dives, but these are probably best discussed in the tech forum.

Maybe a bit of perspective for others reading this: at first the DUE/DIR style may come across as fairly dogmatic. Some claim you must follow it to the letter, least you shall be excommunicated or die. In my experience this is far from the truth, and while hardcore DIR-fetish-zealots may exist, they are far and between (I’ve never met one in real life).

The GUE/DIR training gives you a lot of powerful tools, that are tried and tested, and are simple to use. At some point you have to be a grownup diver and decide how you will apply them. It certainly enables you to make well informed decisions.

And I have no issues if you decide differently. I’m happy to marvel at colorful coral on a tropical reef together with torsiops as a buddy, even though he usually picks a friendly joust in most GUE threads ;-) fine with me, dive and let dive, and it’ll be compatible for an easy rec dive.

Doing a stage deco dive in a cave is a different story, and I will think carefully who to dive with. The nice thing about GUE is that I don’t have to think so hard, or do checkout dives with new buddies, because I know it’ll work before we get in the water.

"Ratio Deco" is simply a way to remember what the dive planning software of your choice spits out.

If your software says "hey chuck, if you do 20mins at 150' with these gases, your deco time will also be 20mins. Also, if you do 30mins at that depth, your deco time will be 30mins" you can easily see that there's a 1:1 relationship between bottom time and deco time *at that depth with those gases*. So if you do 15mins of bottom time, you can know without lookin' at the tables/ software that you'll have 15mins of deco. Similarly, if you do 30mins on the bottom, you'll have 30mins of deco. You can manipulate the depth and see how that changes, and keep making the dive longer and longer in the software to see where that 1:1 relationship breaks down, giving you a limit to where the ratio works.

Its very handy for rough dive planning and allows you to have a quick sanity check for whatever your computer is spitting out on the dive.

RD is really not some crazy voodoo.
