right now i dive with a i 300 aqualung and it seems to be pretty accurate and i like it for the most part but hard to read in dark waters so looking at led computers .the shear waters are very nice but costly but i noticed liquivisions are quite reasonable in price now .a guy who i dive with has the kaon and says display is nice but a real battery killer . i Ii ke it cause i can read his display from a few ft back when i cant even read mine on my own wrist .would you spend the extra money and buy the shearwater that takes normal AA or save about 4-5 hundred (canadian)and spend the money on batteries after .thoughts?

It really depends on what you want out of a computer. If you only want something you'll be able to read better in low light conditions, then there are many options that will solve that issue that are less expensive than the Shearwater. But if you're looking to "upgrade" to a better computer, consider what additional features/options you'd like to have and then go from there. If you want something that will handle multiple gases, the ability to load your dive data to another device via Bluetooth, etc.....things like that. I don't dive one but I think most of those here on SB that do will tell you the Shearwater Perdix is well worth its asking price. Seems here lately it's becoming something of an industry standard. I'm not on-board with wireless AI just yet so I prefer my Atomic Cobalt II console personally. And that's mainly what it all boils down to....personal preference. Only you can decide whether or not computer X is worth the financial cost or not. If it's an option, maybe check with your LDS and see if they have one you borrow/rent to make a few dives with. Then you can figure out what you do/don't like about it and decide if it's the right computer for you.

the color liquivisions have reported screen fade issues like the xdeep/genz in addition to the company being basically defunct at this point.

Is AI important to you? If not, consider the non-AI version of the S/W.... Maybe find a Petrel 1 or 2 (2 adds the electronic compass).

looked at them but still over a grand up here in canada for the 1

I suspect you're basically looking at a grand no matter what, if you want a current model and not a second-hand one. Deepbly cosmiq is about the only always-backlit one out there for less than ~$800+, that I know of, and my impression is they've not exactly been a huge success.

And apparently, DeepBlu has a leak problem. Dive Gear Express switched to Watoom, not cheap at $400, some proprietary Buhlmann algorithm, have seen nothing about it.

I soo :heart:that you can set conservatism level to "GREAT for when diving conditions including the user are excellent" (emphasis mine) on those things.
