So where should we keep the knife if not in our luggage? Should I have it on my person going through customs? :poke:

I thought we were talking about the hotel. The issue is carrying it on your person, which the hotel is preventing while on their premises.

I normally carry a Buck lock blade folding knife on my belt, don't usually think much about it, but times change and I now have to watch where I'm going, in some places in the US a knife is considered a weapon rather than a tool.

Planning a trip to see my daughter in the UK, I found out my Buck knife was a prohibited weapon right up there with switch blades, gravity knifes, butterfly knifes, and so on, not to mention that you can not carry any knife without a proper reason. Sounds like the Philippines have similar laws.

No, my dive knife was in my checked luggage going into the hotel. They scan all luggage in hotels in philippines. Certain hotels not all. They confiscated it and said I couldnt have it in the hotel. I said well then i can leave it with a friend who is outside. they hand me my knife and im standing there in the lobby with the knife in my hand thats not allowed. I said isnt this against the rules to have it in the lobby? Oh its ok sir you are bringing it out to the car. I say, so what if i go crazy here? He just looked at me. Didnt get the fact if I wanted to stab someone why would I wait....

I felt if it were a gun it would be the same deal, here sir, here is your weapon, PLEASE take it outside it is not allowed....

oh and yes certain places in the usa you cant take a knife lol. My mom was in line at the air and space museum in washington D.C. and she was looking fidgity and my dad was looking at her and I had no idea why but i knew SOMETHING was up as we were walking towards a security check. I smartazzedly said to my mom who used to have a super top secret clearance for the navy at moffett field, hey mom whats up, you wanted by the FBI or something?

She leaned in an said no but I have a large knife in my purse. WHAAAAAAAAAT?????!!!!!!! When did you start that????!!! And we walked up as they were patting down and scanning most people and my dad started saying lame azzed questions and the security dude stuck his billy club or wooden stick in the large purse and swooshed it around. He then sent her through. He made an observed guess that she was a harmless old lady. Little did he know she has a license to carry hidden loaded guns in pa and had a big knife in purse.

I was SWEATING bullets thinking my mom was going to jail.

true story.

From my understanding, carrying a blade in your possession when not actually being used for work or an activity where it is nessary, is a crime. The hotel was keeping you out of trouble, and possibly themselves being looked at as an accomplice.

It isn't the equipment that drags itself through the dirt, it's the diver. When I did have one, my console did not drag in the dirt, and neither did anything else. I have both brass and glass as well as plastic SPG's, I'm more interested in their accuracy than their construction.

I guess if using brass and glass makes one an explorer, and a better diver, have a ball.

Bob
I understand your comment and I actually agree with it. Although, I don’t think you understood what I meant correctly.
I didn’t mean that if you have a plastic console, your console drags. Many great divers don’t have brass and glass I’m sure. I’m not saying brass and glass makes you better (I don’t know why it would).

Fair comment though.

Trilaminate drysuit that was too big for me (cost 720). Compounded the issue by paying another 150 to have it adjusted as much as it could be. Still too large so sold it for 250. Out of pocket by £650. Carried out three dives in it.

Important lesson is Don’t buy a drysuit online .

I bought my Seaskin Nova trilam suit online. Made to my measurements. Never actually spoke with anyone from Seaskin, other than some email exchanges after I put my order in. Fits perfectly. Top quality. Cost with all the options, plus a base layer undergarment set, undergarment socks, and a made to measure 250-gm undergarment was just over 1000GBP. Suit by itself, made to measure, but with none of the optional stuff was 420GBP (with no VAT, as I'm in the US).

Not sure the best lesson is "don't buy a drysuit online".

The first regulator I ever bought was a Nemrod Snark III. I bought it instead of a Royal Aquamaster because I was buying from a catalog (U.S. Divers 1966) and three stages seemed better than two. Really wasn't a third stage, but that's another story. Worked OK for classes and quarry diving. Fortunately all my gear was stolen from a locker in 1969, and the insurance check paid for a Royal Aquamaster that I still have and still dive.

I still own two the these. They've been in my garage/museum for a couple of decades now, but do not regret purchasing either of them.

Atomic Cobalt computer, very easy to operate and get through menu, and I loved it when it worked. I sent it back to Atomic 3 times to be repaired and twice they even sent me a new one. Just could not count on it to work consistently. Their customer service was great though.

I've had nothing but trouble with mine. I just got back from a dive trip, and it's dead. All dives apparently lost. I've contacted Atomic, but no response yet. Of course I'm just past the 1 year warranty.

I figure they'll want to charge me for repairs... If so, I think I'm better off sending it to a landfill and moving on. My other Atomic equipment has been really good, I just wish I had come here and read about all the problems before buying. (face plant)

My was well out of warranty and 3 times they repaired or replaced it. Their customer service was great, but what good is it to you if you can't count on it to function properly when you go on a dive.

A Seaquest Dimension D3, it was the only back buoyancy BCD that was a brand that the store sold and they required that I wear a brand of gear that they sold while teaching classes. I never used it after I left that job and I left that store because they kept asking me to do things that violated PADI standards. They also tried to have me fill tanks that were pats their VIP and/or Hydro dates. They have been out of business now for almost two decades!
