As it currently stands, I think my best bet would be to try the Mares Trilastic boots with the small Quattros, then if I don’t like them for whatever reason, I can try the small XTs. I believe the XTs are heavier than the Quattros in the same size, and since I travel with them, weight will be a consideration.

The weight difference is marginal, not enough to be a concern anyway, leave an extra pair of socks at home.

*** I use the 4th element 6,5mm Amphibian and Pelagic boots in a US 7.

The Amphibians looks like they would work, but probably heavy. The Pelagics’s sole seems a little too thin for my purposes.

The Mares are my favorite boots and years old with probably more than 400 dives on them. The Seasolfts are heavier and very will made through. The only negative I have for the Mares is no tab over the zipper to keep the boots from unzipping while diving. If Mares would add this simple feature I think they would be a near perfect boot.

If the boots are just a tad large wear some athletic or wool socks with them.

I see what you mean about the tabs. Even the newer Flexa doesn’t have the tabs. Boot size 5.5 would be the perfect fit for me, but since boots don’t come in half sizes, I usually opt for size 5 - they’re “short” on land but once in the water, they’re fine.

The Mares Flexa’s are available at an LDS. I’ll go try them.

Are the Apeks RK3 fins suitable for diving dry? I used mine on a Drysuit course a few weeks ago and found them, horrible letting air migrate to my legs dry easily, but I’m not sure if that was because it was in only 4-5 m of water?

I dive only dry and they are good for me, albeit could have been a tad heavier. I didn't understand the concept of fins letting the air migrate to legs? The cure for that would rather be rockboots where you can pull the laces really tight. Have a look at Aqualung Evo 3 or 4.

@buddhasummer I did the same and replaced the Apeks spring tabs with Hollis ones for the same reason.

Maybe it’s just the fact that I’m a newbie diver
