Agreed...a copy. But again, I don't see where the new OLPC changes anything related to this practice. They are welcome to keep a copy, but not to tear pages out of my book.

I recently started a new study in the PADI Tec 40 class. It only comes in CD-ROM. He was surprised to see such an antiquated format, and I had to loan him my external CD-ROM drive so he could transfer the files to his computer. The knowledge reviews were in PDF format, which he did not print out (as designed) but rather changed it to a format he could fill in online and then emailed them to me.We (and you too, I assume) already have students that look at a DVD as a quaint artifact. The idea of writing answers in a book is similarly arcane to them. PADI has finally woken up to this reality.
I agree with you- with every smart phone having a camera- all they have to do is take photos of knowledge reviews. If I pay upwards of $60 for a book I do not want anyone destroying this propertyThey are welcome to keep a copy, but not to tear pages out of my book.

I agree with you Elearning and crewpacks should be same price, but if you eliminate crewpacks and charge $180 for elearning as only option you will price students right out of PADI to other options such as SSI, NAUI or SDI.At the recent PADI unveiling of their new way of doing business at DEMA, the looks of puzzlement and astonishment on the faces of some of the older shop owners were priceless. The comments were remarkable too. (Posed at the lectern afterwards).
“What happens if my customers don’t own a computer?”
“Some of my customers don’t know the passwords to their email accounts. How are they supposed to do this?”
“What do you mean. It’s in the cloud”?
I don’t blame them. PADI has allowed their customers to do things al la 1965 until now and made electronic options economically onerous. I still gag when trying to explain the cost difference to potential customers. Seems so counter-intuitive. There has never been (and still isn’t) a compelling reason to want to change. Hint to PADI: Charge the same price for traditional crew packs and e-learning.
IMO if PADI does not establish price equanimity between eL and traditional learning, or eliminate crewpacks altogether, this will be a toothless revolution.

I totally agree with your idea-but what are the chances of PADI ever reducing their price structure, I am still feeling the pain of IDC, IE, and MSDT feeds from Padi and let's not forget the $659 yearly Instructor Insurance paid from a subsiduary of Padi..Hint: Charge $85 for OW elearning. Now there’s an idea. Hey PADI!
