Total speculation here..... but Tim has mentioned in the past that he can get an army tank, but the shipping would be really high. Maybe he worked something out to get one delivered? I just know Tim said that something "special" was going in when it got approved.

Wow that would be cool! Ft chaffee I'd not far away is it'd posable. I wonder if they will be open this Friday I need to get a dive in

I know this is an very old thread, but I did most of my dives at Lake Tenkiller. Does anyone know what the new "surprise" was? Also, does anyone know what kind of USCG helicopter is there? I flew on HH-52 in the Coast Guard and a few times on the HH-3 Pelican. I'm betting (i.e. hoping) that it's an old HH-52!

The map in the first post shows the helicopter to be a ch-53. I just know it is much bigger than I expected. The paint is still good and the Coast Guard marking are still visible. 60 feet at Tenkiller is going to be dark and 8-10 feet visability is great by normal lake standards. 4-8 feet is standard. My first trip to the helicopter, I was swimming fast and following a bearing and figured I had missed it...I looked down and instead of mud, I saw flooring. There are several YouTube videos of the helicopter. This is one of the better ones.
As of September 2018, the bus was still there. (I'm sure it still is today) No tank yet that I know of. I'd love to see them float that out to sink it. I'd even ride it down!!!

By the way, Gene's Aquapro, a great scuba shop near the scuba park hosts the Lake Tenchiller Dive on January 1. If you're into shrinky dink diving, check it out. Unless Santa brings me a dry suit...I won't be there.

Merry Christmas,
Jay

Thanks for the awesome video @Jayfarmlaw!

I stumbled across where it says that the helo is an HC53, but that's a typo. (The Coast Guard had an H52, but never an H53.) I see from your video that it's actually a CH3. Those were the big ones (twin jet engines as opposed to the single engine CH52). I was on my spring helo tour in Alaska to service the aids to navigation that the cutters couldn't reach and I was riding in the jump seat (between and slightly behind the copilot and the aircraft commander). I asked the AC about one of the gauges and he asked me how I knew about the gauge. When I told him that i had a private pilots license, he let me take the left seat (copilot's seat in helicopters) and take the controls for a while. It was absolutely thrilling!

I'll still be in India in January, but I'll Gene's shop when I get back. I may have been there once long ago, but the shop I usually used when I was at Tenkiller was Nautical Adventures.

Tenkiller is on my list for 2019. Have heard/read a lot of good things.

We are doing the Tenchiller dive with Gene's Aqua Pro on New Years Day. Come and get 2019 started right. It's be said if you dive on New Years Day, you will have good luck the rest of the year.

Gene is now John, who is a great guy and runs an awesome shop. He posts weekly-ish dive reports and is very knowledgeable about the lake. They also have a dive boat/barge that runs during dive season that will take you to spots outside the dive park. There is actually good visability on Tenkiller if you hit it right. Great guy, great shop, if you want to get into Oklahoma muck diving, it's a great place to start!!

Merry Christmas,
Jay

This is a Coast Guard CH3, like the one that apparently is sank at Tenkiller. If I remember correctly, when I took this photo, they had just dropped me off on Sea Lion Rock in Alaska to service an aid to navigation.

I won't be able to make it on New Years Day, but do plan to dive!

Am shooting for a weekend trip in March or May. I will check back in with you guys as it gets closer.
