water temp in the Red Sea right now?

I'm headed to Hurghada in 10 days for a liveaboard experience on the Tala. I'm contemplating whether to bring my 2/3mm or 5mm wetsuit. The 5mm fits me better, but I'm concerned it might be too much neoprene. The 2/3 weighs less, so it'll be a bit more "luggage friendly".

Does anyone know what the water temps are there right now? That may help me bring the one that would work out best ...

26-28 C. is normal for this time of the year. Advice 3-5 mm, depending on how good you can whit stand the cold. Don't mind me I always dive in a 7 mm but I'm old...

I don't know about right now, but when we went in October, temperatures ranged between 78 - 80 in the north, and 82 to 86 in the south. You guys are doing the northern itinerary with all the wrecks, not Elphinstone and Daedalus, right?

Not sure where we're going, Lynne ... two dive sites I know we'll be doing are the Moeller and Thistlegorm.

I think I'll bring the 5mm ... I could probably get by with the 2/3, but I might be doing some long dives ... I'm bringing my sidemount rig.

A lot of our reef diving involved dives of 90 minutes or more, because the reefs were lovely and some of them were quite shallow. With double 80's, you can have a good long dive!

I loved the Thistlegorm. As you know, I'm not much of a wreck person, but they have the BEST 3D dive briefing, so I understood what I was looking at, and I found it fascinating. Use a scooter for that one -- the ship's big and you'd never see all of it kicking, especially if there is current (which is common).

I liked the Rosalie Moeller, too. Go down to the props -- at least when we were there, there were some stunning red and yellow corals on the blades.

You guys will probably do the Salem Express. I thought that dive was really eerie and sad.

If you go out to the Brothers, you'll enjoy the Numidia (you can ascend through her holds). And it's really fun to go down to the big sea fan forest on Little Brother and do a photo shoot, and then deco out while circumnavigating the island on a scooter.

I wish I were going with you guys!

We're actually on a custom itinerary that includes northern and southern routes. The rough list is:

I'm bringing my full 3mm, since it's either that or the drysuit.

3 mm is to cold for me out there on long dives. Maybe you could bring a neoprene body to wear underneath it.

Oh, so you are going south! If you are lucky, the winds will be calm, and you'll be able to dive the habilis. I saw some of the most spectacular coral I've seen anywhere on those structures.

I was diving through to the end of October in a 3mm and was fine underwater but the wind can make a big difference. I was making 3 hour long dives per day. That said, if the 5mm is 'broken in' then I don't think you'd be too hot.
