When contacting United on these sorts of issues and/or darn near any other issue, one needs to ensure they are not talking to the call centre in Manila.

I would also point out if you have an impossible connection as a result of the change you get to change your flight no questions asked. This was true in our case.

Hello RJP,
We are flying first class(LGAto IAH) then business class(IAH_BON), and we were never given any notice and they had our contact info....That is no excuse. We book our place first then we buy our tickets. Thank god we booked the studio for the night before. we were getting in at 5:40 and didn't want to wait in Lobby for our room(noon or later).

Sure it was but no online, there a $200 per person fee. I waited over a half hour to speak with someone that barely understood english. Finally everything got changed but he( I think) had to put me on hold to get permission from a supervisor. An hour and half later, the flight part of our trip was resolved. Now on to the next e-mail and phone call.

This is why I use a dive travel agent for many such trips. They just "make it right" and that's the end of it. Cost is the same, or usually less actually as they are often able to get a room upgrade or nitrox thrown in.

Ugh... This ticks me off. My flight at the end of February was also changed. Personally, I loved the red-eyes because you could work on Friday, go to the airport, and be in the water Saturday morning. Now, I'm going to have to take an extra day of vacation, and book an extra night of lodging and auto. It's not likely that Bamboo Bali can accommodate me for an extra night on short notice, so I'm probably going to have to stay somewhere different the first night, then move all my crap to BB for the second night. Serious pain in the ass, and, like everyone else, it pisses me off that I wasn't notified so I could make arrangements as far in advance as possible.

I don't like this change. Now I get to pay another $100 for an extra night lodging and dinner for the same diving. I guess I'll get a better night's sleep before the diving but are people really so fragile that they can't suck it up for one night? This also creates an overlap between incoming and outgoing tourists for a night. I hope there are enough rooms on Friday and Saturday nights.

Same here...I found out about the change upon checking in and looking at my reservation. Michael and I are signed up for All notifications, email, text and phone. I called United and inquired about this and the rep said that an email was sent. Sure enough, I went waaaay back in my SPAM and I found a note, however, there was no alert or RED lettering on the website reservation itself as other changes have been in the past. The rep did look for an alternate flight but of course non are available so the overnight in Newark is our only option. However. United did give us a hotel credit to cover that charge. We are slightly disappointed with losing some dive time, however we do have two weeks in Bonaire and getting a nights sleep prior to the flight will actually be good, I think. 💤 Besides, having an overnight layover in Newark will enable us to take the train into Manhattan for a nice visit. There is now enough time for perhaps a 7:00 PM show or at least a visit to Juniors for the best Rueben Sandwich and Onion Rings on Earth 😄. Oh while we are at it we might as well throw in a shared slice of Cheesecake. We will just have to work on burning off the calories over the next two weeks !!! So, that is my lemonade story, here's to hoping for the best ! Sue

how were you able to get a credit? I called them and they specifically told me they were unable to give any sort of credit until after completion of the flight. I even spoke to a "manager". I told them I knew of people that received a credit and she denied there was any possibility of this.

Scotty, I just called the phone number to ask what happened to my reservation. The rep came back with "The 11:45 flight not offered "....which I knew. I asked if there was an alternate flight...after checking the answer was "No".. and then offered the credit for an overnight stay at An EWR hotel. I agreed as the only other option would be to cancel the flight which would also not work well for my prepaid lodging and truck rental. Now, I am fully aware that this credit as promised is still not a 100% shot as I will not know for sure until the dY of reckoning, however, the rep told me she attached the credit and a memo to my reservation. I will keep my fingers crosses and hope for the best !

I would ask them what hotels the credit is good at. There are many hotels there that United has deals with to accomodate travelers who's flights are cancelled. What you want is a voucher good for a night's stay that you can just give to the hotel and be done with it, rather than some amorphous "credit."

At minimum make sure you understand what they are giving you - you don't want to think that they are paying you back for staying at the Hyatt when it turns out what they meant by "a credit" is actually a voucher for the Holiday Inn Express. Find out where they are giving you the credit, get a voucher code or something, and make the reservation with that code.

Ray

PS - their hotel partners there are actually decent. Usually Courtyard/Fairfield Inn (Marriott) at minimum.
