I am 72 years old and have been diving for over 45 years, I was a US Navy diver and now just a plain OLD wreck and reef diver diving the worlds Oceans, Seas, Lakes, Streams and Rain Puddles here in NYC, NY. If I were never be able to make the surface again, so be it, it is where I want to be!
I LOVE DIVING, wish I could grow gills.

SCUBA is far from an easy hobby to just acquire or just try out. It takes time, effort, and money. Emphasis on effort and money. You'd have to be a kid lucky enough with a family with enough disposable income and enough interest to put the effort into it to be able to pick it up young. That would account for the lack of young divers. Plus you have to convince mom you won't be eaten by sharks.

I'm 35 and most of the people I've seen on the boat or at the dive shops where I live are my age or older. Very few younger than me, maybe a few in their late 20's.

Totally agree. By the way I used to live in Madrid, but now I am in Manchester, though the majority of my dives I've done have been in Spain. My answer is between 30-39, as the age I am.

Salutes.

I've tried to answer the poll but it just goes to a blank page when I click 'vote now'.
My answer is 40yr to 49yr by the way. :blinking:

I started about 6 years ago will be 40 this summer and I am usually one of the youngest when we go anywhere to dive besides my husband who is 38 :)

Into what age group do you fall??? Please answer Poll with your age...

The reason I ask this it because a few of the dive sites I go to say how they are happy that I work with kids and want to bring the sport of scuba to them because the average age of the diver they see is 40's+.

So how old are you? I am wanting to see if there is a good dropoff in divers at a younger age...

Do note that this poll will NOT provide you with the information you seek. It will, however, tell you the average age of SB participants. Not the same thing.

40+ at least, based on personal observations at the recent DEMA SHOW in Las Vegas.

I was first certified in 1972. Most students in my class were in their early 20's or 30's.

So, do you think the average age of attendees at DEMA is the same - or a good proxy - for the average age of divers?

Im 25 and in the army and most of the people i dive with here where im stationed is 25-30 years old
