Long story short, I picked up a DIN DS4 XTX50 (came with a service kit) for a good deal, and then stumbled upon another (not Din) DS4 with random 2nd stage for a REALLY good deal ($60)... so I bought that too.

Took them apart tonight to see condition inside, nothing major... both a little dirty, one has a little green that came off with my finger- they need and will get a good cleaning before reassembly.

Serial Number 605 1666 (lasered) has a white plastic spring carrier and silver lifter, like every maintenance video I've watched
Serial Number 950905 (stamped) has a metal spring carrier and im guessing brass lifter.
-My question is: Should I change the metal spring carrier and lifter to new parts (and if so, where's the best place to pick this up? If a member has a business, i'd be happy to support them), or should I just give everything a through cleaning, drying and reassembly?

The main bodies also have different machining inside, below the Diaphragm. I'm guessing this is because these are very different age 1st stages. Photos with serials for the visual crowd, like myself. Looking forward to learning more.

I'm shocked how simple these things are, and how much easier it is to work on this than my last BMW X5 (even basic things aren't basic on that thing!) or Stacatto 2011.

Thanks in advanced for your time and knowledge.

The metal spring carrier is an older version. No reason to change it unless the finish is deteriorating and may damage the diaphragm. Same with the valve lifter. Those regs will last a very long time if taken care of.

Clean rinse and rebuild
Very cool seeing a side by side for how the channels to the LPs grew on later design

BMW X5 (even basic things aren't basic on that thing!)
This car is so tough to work on only the x6 beats it at how annoyingly hard it is — the engine bay is horribly crammed on both of them (at least the 2009-2014 gen); whenever I saw one come in when I worked at the BMW service ctr I ran away and found another task 😅

Mine was a 2012 Diesel... everything involved taking the entire car apart! I may be able to build one from scratch if you give me the parts in a box, like a Lego set.

The DS4's will be cleaned, rebuilt, tuned and back in the ocean soon.
