Into what age group do you fall??? Please answer Poll with your age...

The reason I ask this it because a few of the dive sites I go to say how they are happy that I work with kids and want to bring the sport of scuba to them because the average age of the diver they see is 40's+.

So how old are you? I am wanting to see if there is a good dropoff in divers at a younger age...

That's because the average age of the people that can afford to dive, go places and dive, is 40's+. :)

Dude I have always said that and the folks are like noooo thats not it. When I was 18-20 there was no way in hell I could afford a mask let alone diving.

SCUBA is far from an easy hobby to just acquire or just try out. It takes time, effort, and money. Emphasis on effort and money. You'd have to be a kid lucky enough with a family with enough disposable income and enough interest to put the effort into it to be able to pick it up young. That would account for the lack of young divers. Plus you have to convince mom you won't be eaten by sharks.

I'm 35 and most of the people I've seen on the boat or at the dive shops where I live are my age or older. Very few younger than me, maybe a few in their late 20's.

The group I travel with has had a tradition of doing a dive trip for each member's 60th birthday. Mine's the last one ... and it's coming up next February. After that, we're gonna start doing 70th birthday trips ...

Q -- shouldn't your question read, "into what age group do you fall?

The question as asked has us guessing what we think is the average age of divers.

I answered the poll based on my own age if that was the question. If the question is what age do I think has the majority of divers I would say about 26 to 39...

I used to be on trips with a bunch of grumpy old divers, and now I nearly am one! Not quite, I'm in the 35-40 bracket, but still young enough that the GOD's still treat me like a kid.

I just came off a live aboard dive trip. We were 3 friends who have been diving together for 12 years and are now in the 35 to 40 range.

There were 15 on the boat. The next youngest person on the dive boat had 15 years age on me. The oldest had just over 35 years on me. It was still a fun crowd though.
