Benjamin, I'm a bit concerned about a couple of issues with your MK 5. The four port swivel cap should take the same retainer and washer as a five port cap. The torque on the swivel retainer is only 35-45 in lbs for brass and probably 50-60 (guessing on this one) for the stainless steel. Have another look at the diagram and note the only o-ring required to seal the swivel is item 16 which is a size -012. Likewise, the only washer (item 14) is the one under the swivel retainer head....none between the cap (item 15) and swivel (item 17)

It could be that the previous owner has mis-arranged the parts or installed parts from a different regulator. Your description of the swivel retainer is one of the reasons I say this. For what it's worth, I think I have a similar retainer mixed in my spare parts-but I don't think it's belongs in a MK 5.

Could you post a close up picture of the parts in question?

I will do so the moment that I can find the time to open it all up. Probably during this coming week.

The thought DID occur to me when I sat down and started comparing it to the various diagrams. Especially when I saw that number #17 in the diagram has a small threaded area protruding from it and in mine, there is only a small dip. I put it down to the fact that it appears to be an older 4 port stage, and not the 5 port one which are in the newer stages.

The seat retainer should look like the one in this photo:

Not like either of the retainers in this picture:

It looks like the one on the right in the second picture. The "barrel" which it is inside looks like the one in the first picture.

I take it that it's the wrong retaining screw?

Um... Fair use? :) Or educational use? Or do those excuses not hold water over there?

herman makes and sells these tools, but he has an issue with marketing, so sometimes we have to steal his intellectual properties so our fellow DIYers know where to get great tools for cheap. :)

So it's basically free advertising for him? :)

Hush hush!
It's INFORMATION!
Told you he's got an issue with marketing... :)
