A beach surface interval is one of my requirements for a Cozumel dive op.

OK, Then Dive Paradise is not on your approved list. That is why there are different operators on the island. Use one of them. Everybody has different requirements. To each his own.

Yo tambien. Since the beachfront bars started objecting to dive ops doing their SI's there and some started charging for it (divers usually don't drink or eat big meals on SI), SI's at places like that are less common than they used to be. I thought that I would miss it, but in practice, not so much.

There's that Pier To Nowhere down south that we SI at sometimes; the rest of the time it's just a slow boat ride to the next site. It's not a problem for me, but DSFDF.

Our panga often stopped at a deserted dock in good condition with a number of conch shells around. Seemed to be a popular spot. I do like a beach stop.

DSFDF indeed. I personally dislike a beach SI. More often than not, the group is all over the place and not back on the boat when it's time to go. It already takes enough time for everyone on the boat to get all their gear on and ready to dive, doesn't it? I'll pass on the added struggle of getting everyone back to the boat!

Yea. Palancar pier, I believe. Nice spot to eyeball other ops and boats and also a short walk up to Playa Palancar beach club with the peacocks if you need a 'sitty'....

A "sitty" did you forget the h? :rofl3:

Just my opinion, but the only reason I would recommend Hotel Cozumel over Blue Angel is if you want a huge pool, constant loud public address noise around the pool and a bunch of children running around... on the plus side, the man made beach area is actually kind of nice, especially since Wilma and the little bar can be fun at night. If you would enjoy a more laid back vibe, no kids, a really nice, fun during the day and romantic at night, restaurant, boutique hotel and dive operation, you really could check out Blue Angel. I have stayed at Hotel Cozumel several times as well as Casa Mexicana and a couple of villas and private homes in town and of course, Blue Angel. Their prices are very competitive, they have small fast boats and one larger one for a more leisurely dive experience, if you so desire. Don't get me wrong, the six packs are leisurely also but maybe not quite as comfortable for the novice diver. The main reson many folks don't mention Blue Angel is because we don't want to spoil our slice of paradise in paradise!

Having put in my .02 here, anywhere these folks recommend is a winner as we are all seasoned visitors, some more than others, most more than me :), so enjoy your stay and be ready to become addicted!

Blue Angel has been mentioned here. I quit them only because their rates went up so much, and it's nice to see some discounts online now. The lady who used to do all of the bookings wouldn't do anything..
Blue Angel is a delightful hotel, stayed there many times, but their rates got up to $100/night. :shakehead: Too much on this solo traveler. Nice to see that their rates have come down so, $63 on Kayak linking to Hotelclub.com - altho I don't know anything about booking thru that site. Their old booking methods were a problem, but I read about that change.
I guess one could book Blue Angel & air on Orbitz, at higher rates - but take the $100/room discount on 7 nights.

As far as kids in the pool, Blue Angel always had them afternoons when I was there. :idk:

I still like Blue Angel tho, and the most recent owners & employee improvements are great. I never would have left except for the price. Now that I have tried Hot Coz, it's fine. I tell them about my sore knee and get a ground floor room overlooking the lawn - quiet. So now I have Hot Coz and optional food & drink for less than even $63 at BA - but I may go back next year.

Thanks, Don. We can always count on you to help keep the crowds down at Blue Angel. :D
