This looks a lot like it. Is the front entirely open to the street? As in, huge doors, or actually no doors? I think they must just have a sliding down garage door or bars that slide across when they close.
dont remember the jaguar but it's been a really, really long time. That was my first dive trip ever. I'd say it was probably 1998 or 99.
It's also easy to see how you could have thought it was on the east side of the "street"; you have to go around the block on one way streets to get there. It's mostly open to the street (there is a section that is not) and back in the hood so far off the beaten path that you can't see it from there. The Zachariah Platter, mmmmm.... I'm hungry.

Closed on Thursdays.

Caribbean King Crab at La Terazza (old Prima spot). Been around the block several times since 1992 and that is the one best in all of Cozumel.

In the 90's we used to dive with you at least once a year and I still think the Caribbean King Crab at Prima is the best meal I ever had ANYWHERE!!! If we ever go back to Coz, we will be heading to La Terazza right after we book with you Dave.

Just have to add something new!

Blue Angel already on my restaurant list - but I just had the Shrimp & Pineapple Chile Relleno for the first time and it was AMAZING!!! Also has a little hint of coconut milk - delicious!!!!

That sounds incredible. I think thats going to be my first meal in Cozumel when I arrive on August 19th.

El Pique - tacos pastor and/or consomme especial

Los Otates - pozole

OK - I hate to share this gem of a place - but it is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Been around for awhile, but Friday and Saturday nights are very special.

Bucannos (sp?) at the old Club Cozumel Caribe (in the north hotel zone, just south of Playa Azul) is probably some of the best food I have had anywhere, ever! Fine casual dining on the waterfront al fresco! The owner is a very talented Chef and she puts her creative touch on whatever fresh fish her husband and son catch whether it be tuna, snapper, wahoo or tonight Mahi! It was absolutely the best, freshest, most perfectly prepared mahi I have had anywhere! The appetizers, deserts, entrees, and drinks are amazing! It is not cheap - but worth every single peso!!!

Every Friday and Saturday night Chef Ines's specials are different - so I can't name just one thing, but you WILL want to save room for appetizer, entree and desert! Just get whatever her special is (always a beef and a fish special and lobster when in season).

Tonight's entree was Fresh Grilled Mahi with a soy/maple reduction served with fresh poblano pasta - it was heavenly! Drink special which I also tried was a very berry martini - your choice of vodka or gin with fresh mixed berry fusion that was dangerously delicious - haha! Desert - I am not even a big desert person, but three types of chocolate mousse (in little shot sized servings) or apple parfait with home made cinnamon ice cream - out of this world!

They are also open for breakfast and lunch and have a fabulous breakfast brunch on Sundays! Put this on your MUST TRY places for a Friday or Saturday night - or during the week for breakfast or lunch!

It's definitely a treat, so splurge a little and give it a try - save up your calories for this meal too - you'll want to try every course!

Speaking of that part of the island, has anyone done anything with the old Cabañas del Caribe property? I stayed there on my first trip to Cozumel in 1978, and the restaurant there was something special. Not for the food, necessarily, though it wasn't bad, but it had a rank of tables butted directly against a sea wall. During the day you could sit and toss out morsels of bread to the hordes of sergeant majors and tangs that hung out there, and at night they would turn on underwater lights and the tarpon would come in cruising around like submarines. I never stayed there again, but for years my group would often return for drinks and food at sunset.

Wilma did a number on it and the last time I dove Barracuda and San Juan (2 years ago?) it was still standing there looking like a bombed out building. Pretty sad.

That isn't the same place is it? We wondered over to the old hotel tower which appears to just have maybe a couple apartments fixed up. This is the hotel plaque:

Buccanos appears to be the restaurant originally for the old hotel. It has the old 70s classy feel to it, like Hawaii Five-O meets Mexico, if you get me:

The breakfasts are awesome:

Everyone gets the fruit and honey:

Missus had the pancakes, ice cream, strawberry and chocolate (I know. How did she call that breakfast?):

Nephew went with the Omelet:

I on the other hand went with the Breakfast Quesadilla with a wonderful spicy remoulade. Fantastic:

As a special bonus, we got to try one of the dinner appetizers. That fancy thing was to die for. Little egg and toast and marinara thing. VERY good:
