Here's something for those of us who just adore our beloved Catalina:

The World's Most Romantic Islands

Yep, according to Yahoo, Catalina rates in the top ten most romantic islands in the world, along with such exotic island paradises as Rangali Islands, Maldives; Capri, Italy; and Laucala Island, Fiji.

How cool is that? :kiss2:

I don't know. Frolicking in Arctic waters is not setting the stage for me...:shocked2:

Before air travel become popular, Catalina Island was Hollywood's playground of the stars. It's still a magical place :)

As a resident of the island for most of the last 42 years, my personal experience indicates this is a LOUSY place for romance! They have a saying here: "You never lose your girlfriend, you just lose your turn." I'm amazed at the number of women on the mainland who feel 22 miles is too remote to start a relationship with me.

Of course for couples already together coming from the mainland, it can be a wonderful place to visit!

Thanks for the laugh. I worked on oceanographic ships for years and that girlfriend line rang true.

. . . but there's no mall there Dr. Bill :shocked2:

au contraire.

There is a mall, it has a Radio Shack that sold the cell phone charger I needed last time I was stuck (well, happily detained by weather) on the island. They are also closed on Sundays, which was the day I needed said charger.

Catalina is one of my favorite places to visit, as a friend of mine says "It's a small foreign country off the coast that happens to take US dollars and they speak English."

Dr. Bill, are there still any celebrities milling about there or have they all gone jetting to the south Pacific?

I can see Catalina as a romantic getaway. You can go overthere with your honey and hit one of the more secluded beaches, or go out to the boonies & hike around.
