Do your own night dive: Gear up, flag a taxi, go south to the lighthouse, wade out, check that current is heading north, take compass heading to head up the coast, dive in, level off at about 25ft, check your compass frequently, watch for super cool creatures, navigate back while watching for the pier pillars at Hotel Cozumel, find SCC exit point next door, you are home! Easy and fun!
I would check the direction of the current before cabbing it up to the lighthouse.

It really isn't necessary to take a cab up to the lighthouse. If you work your way south, into the current, you will see everything you want to see. Go slowly. Save a few hundred psi for the drift back to the exit point.

What would your advice be for an SCC first timer?

Best advice.. Have a great time !!! Just got back (Aug 21-28) and had a great week. I don't think it rained 10 drops while we were there. Not many people at any of the hotels so only minimal people on the dive boats. The last day we only had 11 people on the Cat (only needed on boat for the whole day) and it wasn't crowded at all.

Met some great people and had a wonderful time !!

Definitely do a Twilight/Night dive. Lots of critters out and about. All the dives were great, lots of turtles, a couple snoozing sharks, tons of Lion fish that the DM's killed. The Coral was beautiful.

The food was excellent !!! Couldn't have gone better, especially since my first trip to SCC (then Galapagos Inn) was 14 years ago. I will be back again before the end of the year !!

The only downer was the number of Cruise Ships. I know it is good for the economy but it sure is a bummer when you dump over 20,000 people into town on a daily basis. The Oasis of the Sea and one other mega ship were moored one day and just those two held upwards of 12,000 people and there were two others docked along side that were dwarfed by the Oasis. The Oasis made the two other huge cruise look like row boats. Oh well..:(

When I did a night shore dive, my buddy had a strobe that he hung from the ladder near the entry/exit point that made it easy to locate.

I took my own mosquito spray and wipes and was glad that I had them.

Don't be afraid to tell them if you have special dietary needs. They are very accommodating.

Everything Chris (azscubadude) said! You'll find the food excellent there as well as the people! I can't wait to go back for our next trip! The twilight dive is the schnitz too, make sure you take your camera.

Actually, I suggest doing this dive in twilight first, then the second time at night. It's a fun, easy dive and you'll see plenty of creatures out and about. And the only cost is a taxi shared with your buddy.
No can do. They are constructing a peir there and it is fenced off...of course that was in July when I was there. You may have to enter further north.

Make sure you venture into town (especially on Sunday night). The little party they have every week is fun and there is some neat local art to see/buy. The food at SCC is really great; you'll definitely enjoy!

Sunday in the Square, try the cup of corn and stuff in the SW corner. It'll be the family with the ice cream too. Look for the line of locals. I love that stuff... (and I have forgotten the name again....)

Do you know what the minimum is? There are 4 of us in my group that are going? Good call on the sausage, I don't dive without one which might be overkill but I just hate the thought of getting left at sea. haha
Hardly an overkill at all. It amazes me that anyone will go in without one.
