after insect bites - vinegar? AfterBite?

ok, only 9 days now!!! yippee!! i'm gathering sunscreen, repellent, OTC meds, etc. For after a mosquito bite......what have you found to relieve the itch the best? dabbing vinegar on it? that AfterBite stuff? Benadryl gel? clear nail polish? I'm fairly sensitive to bites and will get a welt and itch a lot, whereas my husband doesn't have much of a reaction to mosquito or ant bites. thanks in advance

It is a powerful corticosteroid. Dab it on with a q-tip or get the same drug formula in a tube as a cream suspension.

This will absolutely work and do so within seconds.

I would take at least two different products in case one doesn't work for you....I find Benedryl gel works good but I also take along hydrocortisone cream too....also rubbing alcohol gives some temporary relief...or the drinking kind taken by mouth numbs you up if you drink enough but doesn't do much for the bites

The best thing I have found for insect bites to stop them itching is the 'click' thingy

It basically passes an electric shock over the bite and hey presto - 4 hours of no itching!

I second that. Tried it on our recent trip and works wonders. FWIW, you will get bitten if you don't use repellant. I forgot to spray some on on a couple of evenings and you should have seen my ankles. And bring some overstock; you don't want to run out! Have fun on your trip!!!!

I laughed when my friends lent me their clicker thingy for holiday in thailand - I get abused by mozzies massively and end up with bites that swell all over the place.

I clicked a couple of them and its instant itch removal - its very strange!!

Since then whenever I go anywhere where I might get bitten (sweden is the worst for this!) I take one.

It doesnt take the swelling down or anything like that , it just stops the itch which is the worst bit - otherwise I scratch myself into tiny little bits

These devices are Piezo-electric spark igniters. Go to Home Depot and look in the grill replacement parts section.

You can make one out of a butane lighter that has run out of fuel: Piezoelectric Sparker Construction

They "work" by overstimulating and temporarily deadening the nerve in the area that you apply them to. Much like slapping the skin, or holding a match nearby. Relief is extremely temporary.

I remember them being sold here in the USA, but likely they fell victim to FDA scrutiny, a less gullible public, or the fact that it was just simply easier to throw the $15 into the firepalce rather than go through all of the trouble of buying the clicking thingie.
