Man, it is my pleasure. I hope I can be up there again on Saturday. We'll see.

Finally,I got wet again after being hot and dry for the past month. Does anyone else feel dehydrated and delirious when they have not been diving for a while?:idk:

We started planning the dives for today a little over a week ago. A two tank, boat dive with OFF THE WALL DIVE CHARTERS (864)944-DIVEwas booked! We had planned/confirmed the usual dives with off the wall(We have used them several times)of the Junk/wall with the possibility of crackens beach.

The morning started out with the packing of my old ford at 5:30am and and hitting the road. We made the usual stops at the local gas station for ice and coffee! There was one last stop for a light breakfast from "Old McDonald's"(that was courtesy of my three year old)! We arrived at the dive shop around 7:50 am. Usually, we drive out to the lake and look around before stopping but this morning there was already a huge crowd at the shop. We went in to the shop and filled out the paperwork, paid our dues, and analyzed our tanks. Then we drove over to the park to wait for the boats(both boats went out today) to arrive, so we could capture a seat among the many going diving today.

At the Lake
In the beginning there was a cloudy haze over the mountains. It looked like it was going to be a dreary day with the highly possible chance of rain. The look seemed to keep many of the boaters away from the lake and the divers off the ramp today. Still there was a few who were up to the challenge of diving.

It was a slow ride out to the Junk for one boat with a few technical issues. Nothing was going to stop us from getting out there. We made a slow steady streak out to the dive site. The slow ride gave us ample opportunity to get geared up and be ready to dive as soon as the boat captain opened the pool. The lake is still nearly at full pool which has totally changed the landscape from my first year of diving this lake.

We tied off to the orange buoy and the second boat from OTW! We got a brief dive briefing about new signs below us to all the structures and the lines linking them all together. The pool was open and I was all excited to hit the water. Our goal was to drop down over the wall for a brief bit, look around, and make our way back up to the junk.

We hovered over the bottom(61') at the surface marker rock, allowing me to make my usual adjustments at the depth and get comfortable before finding the junk and dropping over the wall. The viz was 15'+ with the cloudy conditions. We could see half the junk on approach from rear. We turned and dropped down over the wall to 111' and a good clear 15' viz with lights. We watched a few other divers come over the wall from far below them. (That would have made for a nice picture of them dropping over the wall.) We slowly climbed the wall checking in the crevasses to see if anyone was hiding out in there. We made it up to the junk, swimming around and through it a few time then moved on to the ski boat. We found the air bell that use to be up, sitting inside the ski boat. I lead us back down to the back of the junk and we toured the ledges surface for the last 10 minute of the dive. We saw a nice bass hiding out in the rocks and a small catfish. The inside of the junk had tons of tiny small bream inside but nothing to get excited about.

Dive 1
Depth- 111'
Time- 46 minutes
Visibility- 15'+
Temps: 60'- 70o
110'-55o
Surface Init-1:04

Dive two was at Crackens beach! We tied off to the surface marker over by the dam intake. We followed the line down to 89' of the sloping wall. We were trying to find the fissure/fault located here. It was suppose to be around 80'! I love this dive spot on Jocassee. The visibility in this area always seems to be better. It is a very sandy area with some neat over hangs and cracks in the walls. There seems to an abundance of fish in this area. We saw several huge bass in this area(darn where was my camera)! We found a pack of catfish hiding in one of the cracks on the face of one of the walls(15-20)! They have stretched a rope across the sand from the wall to surface line and from the surface line down to the bottom of the wall(way down there) to help you find your way back to the boats surface line. This really helps you determined your location relative to the boat and your position in the water.

Dive 2
Depth- 89'
Time- 50 minutes
Visibility- 15'+
Temps: 89'- 64o
50'-75o
Surface int-1:30

The final dive of the day was starting out great. We decided to go to the divers ramp. We ran into some people we know there, we talked a few, and then headed to the water. The haziness finally had burned off and we could clearly see the wall across the lake and the tops of the mountains. We enter the water and headed down the left ramp(if you are facing the wall or east)! There was several bream there to great us. We ran into some of there friends the bass family(huge bass too)!We found the platforms, then to the mirrored ring, and the wheeled chair boat. We followed the line off the back down to 69' and turned to come back up. We followed the buoyancy course toward the bones family. About this time I had developed an unusually nasty headache. So I turned the dive around. We did stop to practice some skills for a few minutes, I figured why the platforms were clear and I was there why not( I was secretly hoping my headache would go away!) I was really enjoying that dive in my basic gear with no extra add ons or my 7 mil that I was wearing early(dove the 3 mil this dive). Finally my headache did not give in so we headed up. :depressed:

Dive 3
Depth- 69'
Time- 41 minutes
Visibility- 15'+
Temps: 69'- 75o
40'-78o

So I have missed Lake Jocassee all summer long. I finally got to return and had 2.5 great dives. The weather was perfect, it was not hot or cold but just right! The people diving on the boat and at the ramp were friendly and fun as always. It was another great day of diving and I am ready to do it again.

Thanks to Krawlings for some good diving today!

Very descriptive. My brother and I dove off the ramp on Saturday afternoon and the viz over by the Bones was awful. One new thing that has been added in the last week and a half is a HUGE American Flag flying over the Bones. I was not expecting it and To be honest, something that large, when not expecting it, startled me a bit. I think the viz was about 6'.

And to answer your question, yes, I get dry and want to go diving.

We did not make it to the bones family. Now, I will have to come back just to see the flag. :D I turned the dive on the way over there. I had a nasty headache(migraine).

Was there a lot of people in the water Saturday? I was surprised how empty it was. Rain/chance rain does not stop me from diving but lightning does!

There were not a lot of people at the ramp on Saturday. Really rainy and a little thunder during our stay.

Interesting that I too got a bad headache during my last dive.

Great report Tony . YES 3 GOOD DIVES . Sorry for your headach . we still got in a 41 min dive before thumbing the dive .. Jeremy we will have to coincide our trips to Jocassee and gett in some dive time .

True. True.

As to CO2...not me: Lack of sleep + dehydration= bad idea diving. The fix was drinking water and a good night's sleep.
