There seems to be some delay in finishing that page as it still have issues, no info on calibration or sensor replacement...?

Sorry, I've looked forward to the June 16 info so long, and now it's the 17.

Hi Divers,

Hot off the presses..sorry for the delay Don, but I'm working to get a better package together for you guys.

Gas Calibration:

While calibration is desirable prior to every use, The CO Portable comes factory calibrated for use at sea-level. This calibration carries a 12 month warranty from the date of manufacture.
The warranty is void if the calibration screw has been tampered with.
Warning:

The analyser is sensitive to partial pressure. Calibration must always be carried out at
the same pressure as the CO measurement.

For gas mixtures or room monitoring you should use a CO calibration of 20ppm or 50ppm concentration before use. This assures minimum deviation and greatest accuracy. The CO
As the sensor ages it would be correct to either send the unit back for recalibration or reset the
calibration using the above concentrations of certified gas.

For regular use expose the analyser to the calibration gas and adjust the calibration screw until
the display reads the listed concentration of the Calibration gas.

The analyser is now ready for CO measurement.

Replacement sensor will be $130.00. Expected life of the factory sensor is 18 months, however two years is an average yield.

Carbon Monoxide Calibration:

Obtain the 20ppm or 50ppm Carbon Monoxide from a certified Distributor and measure the gas

using a 100 to 300 cc per minute flow rate. Be sure to allow the reading to stabilise.

Hi Don,

I hear you, but for 90% of open water divers, this unit will be $339.00 and has a 12 month warranty on factory calibration. That's it. It comes ready to take a reading straight off a tank, so you don't really need a bcd flow restrictor. At the end of 12 months we will probably offer a cal service for folks so they don't ever have to buy cal gas and cal a cal gas regulator.

Its an option and a fairly cost effective one for most divers. This forum is, at the very least, keeping this important issue at the discussion table and I do appreciate you're honest and continued input. :vintagediver:

OK TY, so I still need help here. Why is this a better choice that the ToxiRAE 3 for less than half the money...?

Thinking the same thing Don....and the sensor....it lasts a year....and $130 to replace....?? Even if we don't buy all the extras this thing is only good for 12 months...

must admit... when I look at the manual I am a bit perplexed ....how do you actually use it....??:puppy::

Gas Calibration:
Calibration is desirable prior to every use. For gas mixtures or room monitoring you should use a CO calibration of 50ppm or 100ppm concentration before use.
This assures minimum deviation and greatest accuracy. The CO Portable is factory calibrated and marked for 93 ppm CO with calibration gas.
As the sensor ages it would be correct to either send the unit back for recalibration or reset the calibration using the above concentrations of certified gas.
For regular use expose the analyser to the calibration gas and adjust the calibration knob until the display reads the listed concentration of the Calibration gas.
The analyser is now ready for CO measurement.

according to Analox this voids the warranty??

Warning:
The analyser is sensitive to partial pressure. Calibration must always be carried out at
the same pressure as the CO measurement.
Carbon Monoxide Calibration:
Obtain the 50ppm or 100ppm Carbon Monoxide from a certified Distributor and measure the gasusing a 100 to 300 cc per minute flow rate. Be sure to allow the reading to stabilise.

so far this seems to be the most pertinent bit...:poke:
According to WEEE regulation this electronic product can not be placed in household waste bins. Please check local regulations for information on the disposal of electronic products in your area.

If I have to send the unit from Canada to California every year that is a bit of a deal breaker..... looks like a job for your LDS surely???

I suppose that Patti is working on clarifications. I held off on posting a thread in Basic Scuba about various makes and models until they came out with theirs, then included what I could about their new one.

Clarifications from Analox Sensor Technology:
1) The CO Portable is $339.00 and comes calibrated and ready to read directly from a DIN or Yoke tank valve. Purpose designed for diving, no bag to inflate, no connectors, nothing extra is needed.
2) The manual that's being quoted above is obsolete and is being rewritten to accommodate two important product enhancements: 1) We will warranty the unit's calibration for 12 months and 2) 20PPM CO Cal gas is sufficient if you choose to calibrate the unit yourself.
3) Sensor Life is being misquoted: The sensor carries an 18 month warranty. Most folks will probably get 24 months.
4) The only warranty voided by calibrating the unit yourself is, in fact, the 12 month Calibration Warranty. Makes sense?
5) Uber had posted some concerns about WEEE regulations? It's an electronic device..and as with ALL electronic devices, should be disposed of with appropriate E-Waste facilities.

The ToxiRAE 3 is indeed a good looking piece of kit. It is, however a disposable analyzer. You must purchase a new one every two years. It does not come with a 12 month calibration warranty and it is not purpose built for scuba diving. One would have to place it in an inflated bag or rig a connector and use the analyzer in a way it was not designed.

At the end of the day, the Analox CO Portable is a good analyzer, purpose built for diving, that will save lives. I appreciate all of the input from you guys and the mere fact that this discussion will get folks to buy CO monitors...any CO monitor, is a very good thing.

Folks are already placing orders at Homepage: Analox - Looking after the air you breathe. and I am receiving my first stocking shipment tomorrow morning.

Happy and Safe Diving
