another great day on the Explorer! Calm seas, good vis and a good crowd made for a great trip. To top it off Alex killed one of them pesky Lion Fish! I also caught an interesting fish as well... Well, it was a marine battery but it made me wish that I hadn't left my lift bag at the house :(

oh, not to toss Kev under the bus but he had is camera today so hopefully there will be some good pics posted here later on...

Hey! I did dust off the Friends of Scubakev Memorial Camera and took it diving all weekend. I still have some challenges on the computer end, dealing with Nikon raw files, but here are some shots of the SB'ers that came out!

We were pretty fortunate with topside conditions over the weekend, flat seas and kinda warm air temps (almost felt like Florida!). Vis was decent, varying between 50-70 feet. Things changed today though and seas got downright nasty, plus it was rainy. Down below conditions were still pretty good though. All weekend we had mild north currents and water temps were between 70 and 72 degrees.

Carmen found another lionfish on Clubhouse, but nobody had any implements of destruction, so she tried to cook it with her HID canlight. While she fell short of actually killing the fish, I am almost certain that it is now unable to reproduce.

Carmen and the CRDlight! This was the instrument utilized against the invasive species.

The efficacy of the use of can lights in the battle against lionfish was discussed on the surface interval.

I don't think that any of the folks today were SB'ers, but we ran out to the Castor and found this guy munching on something.

Nice to see pics again Kev !! You haven't lost your touch . . . they are great !!

Nice to hear another lion fish bit the dust... wish we could use spearguns to eradicate the pesky invasive Japanese kelp here off Catalina.

:chuckle: If you're certain, then I am as well. Had a great time as usual, Kev!! Thanks for the pictures and hope to dive with you again soon.

Kev
great job as always thanks for a fun trip :thumb:

Holy smokes! Alex dropped me on a whale shark yesterday on Black Condo. A twenty footer was cruising along the ledge at about 50' and swam right under me (about 15 feet below). Sorry, no pics... but I have a witness.

The diving has been kinda crappy lately other then that. Really green, cold, murky water with either zero or next to zero current.Water temps this week ranged between 67 and 69 degrees trending warmer. Viz has improved from about 25 feet to about 40. I think the Gulfstream is wandering closer to us after all of that west wind blowing it away. Lobsters are starting to show back up too.

Wow! That sighting must have made up for the otherwise mediocre conditions. I have never seen a whale shark. How many would you say you have seen in Florida waters Kev?
