I was just informed today that FIBR no longer provides colored luggage tags, which used to identify bags at the airport for bag handlers who then took all the color-coded bags and put them on a cart for the FI bus.

If FI no longer provides colored tags, how are bags for FIBR folks handled at the airport? Do we just have to grab our own bags now? Orlando and his crew did such a nice job before.

Thanks.

You can be assured Orlando will be around! I think Nick was sending out the luggage tags from Texas when he was representing FIBR. Since that is no longer the case, they have no way to send the tags from Roatan. In the past, Luis has collected all the FIBR bags at the airport and brought them to the bus. I assume you need to claim your bags and give them to Luis or Orlando. Just tell them you are going to FIBR and they'll know what to do.

Many people forget to tip these guys who handle the bags for AI Resorts.

Great if you do, but carry a $5 bill along if you haven't thought of it before.

Yep, that's one of the things I've emailed to everyone on my group about who to tip. Those guys do a great job!
Ahhh, another excellent service provided by Nick. Sad to see him disconnect from FI. It was nice to get such quick responses from him when I had questions pre-trip.
I wonder if I made up some bright yellow tags that say Fantasy Island, if that would be of any value to Orlando's guys?

It's worth a shot :D My bags still have the FIBR tags from last trip...

Ken, you work too hard. This is your vacation, right?

If you made them, and spent money mailing, then everyone remembered to use them - I'm sure that they could be beneficial. Either way, I am going to be watching for my own bags at every step tho, regardless of who handles them where. Mine have the red & yellow ribbons. :eyebrow: Hehe, I once met a lady at IAH customs baggage claim who saw my ribbons and said "My son is a Marine too!"

So there is baggage service from roatan airport out to FIBR that is seperate
from whatever transportation may be taken to the resort ? I have not
picked a date yet but learning a bit as I go. I assume the bags are collected
by the owners then brought to a bag transfer service for FIBR. If any tags
are to be used for the resort are they put on after collecting from carousel
or wherever they might be ?

The bags are collected at the airport and put on a separate van that goes to the resort - the times I've been there, that van follows the van with the people. There are some baggage handlers at the airport who would grab the bags that were tagged for the various resorts (tags put on before leaving home) and they normally would have the bags rounded up by the time you get through passport control. The bag guys get them and put the bags on the carts for the resort destination. It saved each person from having to go grab their bags directly.

Fantasy Island had yellow tags, I think Anthony's Key had some color, ILR had a different color, etc. Now FIBR doesnt do the colored tags so we'll have to grab our own bags and give them to the baggage guys (or just take them out to the bus ourselves, but that's a lot of hassle. They have some kind of xray machine at the airport that is supposed to be xraying bags which you come through with, but the baggage guys just put them on a cart and walk on past. If you are moving the bags, you need to put them through the xray.
(Now whether anyone is even looking at the xray machine is another question).

when we were there, a guy from CCV resort picked out the bags with the pink tags, and put them on a cart. We were instructed to make sure all our bags were there, then the cart was taken to the truck. I am guessing that is normal procedure for all resorts.

If the resort does not have a color code than I suppose at least a tag with the
destination resort on it ? My bags are tagged with name but that may not tell
them to much if they were to end up at the wrong resort. Not sure how big the
airport is but it would be kinda nice to see the luggage at least once before
proceeding to the resort. It sounds like they have a decent system and I'm
sure no need to worry. I will go with at least a resort tag if the resort I go with
does not have a color code. Thanks for the info !
