We have a dive trip scheduled to Curacao in mid August---- If we want to bring only one wetsuit and dont want to be cold... should it be a 5mm or a 3mm ?

Thanks !

We were there in December - water temperature was 80-82 deg F.

We wore 3mm suits and were very comfortable. My wife will not dive if she is cold and we did 3 dives several days and she was just fine.

For August - take a 3mm and be prepared to leave the zipper open. ;);)

Ditto. We were there in august last year and were fine in a well squashed 3mm. You probably could even go in just swim trunks, but I like the full suit just in case I rub up against something.

Hi Mintaka,

Temperatures in August generally are above 80°F. I still use a 5mm plus hood, most of our guests laugh at me for doing so; some even dive just in their swim shorts. For diver training and rental we use 3mm shorties, and >90% say that's enough.

I hope to see you in Westpoint in August

It seems that no matter where you are, the local DMs generally will use 5mm and often a hood.
I've seen this in bathwater conditions! They just get acclimatized to the prevailing water temperature. Anytime it is less than body temp you will lose some heat.
Andreas, maybe when you get back from Germany it will take a couple of weeks before you need the 5mm again.

Well, Frank, it seems I am completely spoiled; I wouldn't wear anything else but my 5mm (although without hood) even on my trip to Bali the last 2 weeks where the water was as warm as it will ever get around Curacao - you may call me a wimp :)

OK - YOU ARE A WIMP!!!! :lotsalove::lotsalove::lotsalove:
(just couldn't resist :D:D)

Are you going to be staying in Curacao - hoping to see you again in December.
Don't know if I ever said "Thanks" for spotting that little octopus - so much fun playing with him :cool2:

We will be back at Lodge Kura Hulanda Dec 5-12. Probably just my wife and I (not the gang of 8).

It would be great if you can locate another octopus and maybe a Seahorse. ;) This time maybe we can dive together - although your directions for finding things were great.

I have to say that we do not often return to a place 2 years in a row (the only other places have been Jamaica and the FL Keys) - but Curacao is special.
