So... hypothetically speaking... if one is instructed to offer up the offending fruit to the sea... but injests it instead... In as much as the bananna is still technically and in fact on board... does the dive start early????

I don't believe that bananas bring bad luck. In fact, there was a yellow sailboat named "Bananas" in these parts a few years ago. It was a racing boat and dominated its fleet. Now, that can't be bad luck. In fact, we dive it often and no one has ever suffered an injury while doing so.
Hummm... perspective issue... You'll note that 'Bananas' was the only one with luck... the rest of the fleet... DOMINATED... seems like their 'bad luck'... so tell me... when "Bananas" sank, moved on or was otherwise precluded from preying on these other poor vessels... bet they started winning, eh?
