I now understand, and thank you all for the information. Other destinations, such as the Maldives, Indonesia, and Egypt, do so; there is plenty to visit with family. Nice to travel by myself now and then :)

What do you think of the two-week, two-dive resort visit or the 10-12 PG only visit?
I think you are right not to take the family, I did 6 nights in PG by myself 4 dives a day and know my non diving wife would have been very bored which in turn would have limited my diving, I would aim to do 7 full days in PG and 2 trips to Verde if you can plus another location - Malapsuca, Subic / Coron (if you like metal) or Bohol as all are easy to get to bar Malapscua

I am going with the wife to Coron and El Nido for 2 weeks later this year as there is enough above the water activities for her and I can still get a decent about diving done (hopefully 30ish) and may go back in March / April to do some training in Subic after which I will add on PG

With Andy? I plan to do the same, probably in 26.
Yes did the advanced wreck with him this year going back to do some more training probably tech side mount. He is a great teacher learnt more in 5 days with him than 30 years of diving

Is diving with PG the same as diving in Anilao? If so, is there any reason to go to both?
Ask me again in January . Anilao is more famous for macro (muck) and black water diving, while PG as a variety of reefs and one muck/macro-only site (but a reasonable amount of macro life other places). I understand there are reefs in Anilao also, but I don't know how they compare to PG (and especially how they compare to Verde island).

Anilao + PG is a very good introduction to first timer in Philippines as the diving style is quite different. However, some dive resorts in Anilao has very complicated system on dive charges which is unique. I had never came across it anywhere in SE Asia that there is extra charges for boat and guide. You need to find out first before making reservation.
There is no domestic flight to arrange and NAIA is only about 3hrs away from Anilao. Therefore plenty of time to prepare for the typhoon.
Southern Leyte is great but getting there is not that straight forward. A bit easier to Malapascua.

Oh man, I've got lots of questions for you!

1. Is this an advanced wreck course for technical divers or an advanced recreational wreck course?

2. Is he as good as I've heard?

3. Did you do it in SM or BM? If SM, did you complete the course with him or before you met?

4. What are your plans with him next?

This sounds exciting, I'll do a two-week trip with one week with PG and one week in Anilao for different types of photography.

Please, pretty please, do report back.

For Anilao, there is one specific dive resort that I'll go to, but I can't remember its name. There is a guy named Mike who works there as their photography expert. If I'm traveling alone, I can go at any time (except during Ramadan or other religious holidays), so I'll go when it's the best time to be there.
