Have I been drinking or have we really had 279 posts on bananas on board?

If you can't go 4 hours without a banana, find a captain who will let you bring one aboard. What's so hard about that?

We have had thousands of post on where to put or not put your mask and if you should wear a snorkel. So this thread is still young. :D:D:D

so why continue the legacy of intolerance? why not break the cycle by practicing tolerance and respect?

I don't know, ask the believers. They are the ones who try to force their beliefs on others, and start wars over whose god can beat up the other's god.

but at least it's good to see that there are other people, such as yourself, in support of free speech. i just find it odd that as a proponent of free speech, you would also want to suppress the expression of speech by those whose views differ from yours...

Where on Earth did you get that from? Nobody on either side is expressing a desire to supress anything.

All this talk about Free Speech and suppression....I'm all for free speech. I did my part and fought for free speech. But free speech on a boat is just like free speech in the military...Forget about it. The only one who has free speech on a vessel is the Captain. But Captains are like anyone else in the chain of command...they can be a-holes where their opinion is the only one that matters, or they can be open to new ideas and input. Ultimately, they are accountable for everything that happens while you're aboard their boat. What some Captains don't understand is that while they are the final authority, they are also beholden to the customers. Because without customers, there are no captains.

But disregard a Captain's directive, and you may find that if you want to dive with him/her again, the spots are all full, or your calls go unreturned, etc...Most of us who work on a boat don't like confrontation with customers, and most times we'll back down if it's a small thing so as not to embarrass anyone. Then we'll shake your hand as we help you off the boat, and remember your name so we don't book you again.

After all, when I go into someone's home, I honor their customs and courtesies. I don't have to adopt their beliefs, I just have to adopt a small amount of respect, whether I agree with them or not.

Like I said in a previous post, I have no desire to dive with much less be stuck on the same boat with a guy that will argue with the Captain, stomp his feet, wring his hands all over something as stupid as a banana.

Chiquita and Dole lose a 500 ft freighter on average every couple of months from hauling the deadly cargo of Bananas. Capts and crews get hazardous duty pay for hauling the fruit of death, as it's known among the men and women that brave the perils of the banana trade. The American Burea of Shipping requires that all crew members carry a rabbits foot and a four leaf clover while on watch. A banana boat left guatemala and was seen two hours later in London and never seen again. The banana is the terror of the seas.

Is that a banana in your pocket or are ya glad to see me---Mae West

I have no desire to be on the same boat with someone insane enough to take property out of my hands and throw it over the side. If they so much as touch me while taking said property out of my hands, I would file an assault charge.

That would be the last time they would get my business, and I would ask to be taken back to shore calmly even if the request is rejected. I would later share my experience with others so they can avoid the psycho as well.

Sportsmanship in sports....??

A lot of foot stomping tyrants here it seems.

There, fixed it for you:wink:
