I'm a Fish!
I am looking to purchase the Galileo HUD computer but do not want to switch masks. I have a TUSA style prescription mask, from Seavision, that I am very happy with and have not been able to find a compatible Scubapro mask that fits my face properly. Does anyone have experience modifying the Scubapro mount for the HUD or am I going to be forced to purchase a new prescription mask that is not comfortable to make it work?

If you’re serious about a HUD computer, consider the SW NERD. I had a SP HUD and had nothing but issues with it. The NERD is mask-agnostic and a much better display.

What issues? Multiple lost connections to the transmitter, had to change masks several times - the SP masks never fitted me properly. I’d consider this one really carefully. I only realised how bad it was when I got the NERD.

If your mask isn’t the type with a frame I think you’ll need a different mask, if you do have a frame the HUD comes with an adaptor that you can zip tie in place. I used a D mask and it was very easy to mount, signal loss can happen but not to often, the worse thing that I experienced was it a bunch of thick kelp it almost pulled my mask off and it did pull the mound loose.

Unfortunately the NERD is not only twice as expensive but due to the fact that it is regulator mounted I will no longer be able to see it if I switch gasses or provide air to another diver. If they made a mask mounted NERD I would probably get it despite the extra cost.

I have a mask with a frame, it is a copy of the first Tusa mask with removal lenses from the 1980’s and I just don’t know if that adapter will work with it. I may just buy the adapter to try it out first. I found one on EBay for $23.99 instead of the usual $44.99. I was hoping to find someone that had already adapted one or maybe has a 3d printed solution. I have tried many different masks over the last 40 years and keep going back to the original design as it seems to fit me best. I am definitely going to get the HUD unless something else comes out first that I like better. I just don’t want to switch masks if I don’t have to.

Probably the best bet is to buy the adaptor and try it before buying the HUD.

Yes 100%

Here is a prerequisite, the mask skirt had to be accessible so you can thread the ziptie

The adapter is funny in a way that it’s not also supposed to work in a straight forward way, even with SP masks
Here you can see I have to break its feet so it seats on this maks

Honestly, as much as I was impressed by the G2 HUD since it came out, I was a bit disappointed in it when I got it last year
Mainly because I dive now exclusively in sidemount with AI and it doesn’t have that capability to view both tank pressures at the same time (but the older wrist G2 has it)
The Buhlmann algorithm if far better on the HUD tho
I think I might sell mine and stick with the normal G2

I honestly recommend looking at the HUD from Halcyon (I can’t believe I’m actually encouraging people to..), it’s mask agnostic , but sits on the mask
It’s also designed by the same dude who made the G2Hud for Scubapro, so iteratively improved

Thanks for showing me that on the mask, it helps. I would consider the Halcyon HUD if I could find any info on it. All I can find is that it is coming out in the near future.

It’s out already (I thought so)
I tried it at Boot, it’s quite smooth
Of course more expensive given the big H logo and all
But… it has the advantage of being CCR (monitoring) capable if that’s your cup of tea (don’t know if that would extend to everything or just the Halcyon one)

I would consider it for myself when it’s cheaper/out on the used market
Saving for some other stuff at the moment

I can find it for sale but I can’t find any details on how it works or how to mount it. Also it seems like it may require the handset to work, do you know if it is independent?
