Another vote for the Aqualung Titan LX........a great reg for the price, many stores seem to use them as rentals.........

My son has used one for years (a former rental unit) - from colder dives (55 Degress F) to warm blue water and at depths up to 115 feet......no issues at all.......

Nice purge, good hose routing and mouth piece, it is simple (no adjustments) and allows you to really enjoy the dive.....:)......at least he does......

Hope this helps......M

You might consider the new AL Mikron. It is very small and light. I had an opportunity to try out some new gear in a pool. The Mikron breaths very similar to the Titan LX, perhaps a touch stiffer, and is very small, intended for travel divers. I was invited to test this gear after laughing at the new DM/salesman/"military" diver/newbie. He was trying to sell me some sort of poodle jacket with a slot for a Spare Air.

The Titan LX for 09 has new and in my opinion inferior first stage so hence forth I will probably not recommend the Titan LX. Using the new LX, it breaths the same, but I prefer the radial routing of the older version. Perhaps it is a non issue and I am just perturbed over the change for no reason other than change but that seems to be the mantra these days, change--to what---why--what are the goals of change? In this case, the first stage is somewhat smaller--yawn--it was not exactly big before.

Did you know that the only difference between a Legend second stage, a Titan LX second stage and an Apeks second stage is essentially the graphics on the cover. IMO, the original Titan LX has the better first, the Legend first is a great unit, both have replaceable HP volcano orifices, something some of the Apecks do not have and that will certainly limit the life of a regulator.

Just get yourself a new, or old, Titan LX, if you travel a bunch, that new Mikron looks like a winner. I would like to test the Mikron at depth, see some WOB info, but my belief based on limited exposure to it is that it will be an excellent sport reg.

The reason the Titan and Titan LX are used in rental is that they are relatively inexpensive, breath well, and are reliable and simple to work on and overhaul. The non LX Titan continues with the former, superior, first stage.

I own something like 10 or eleven scubapro mk17's and a couple mk2+ first stages and everything is coupled to scubapro S600 second stages. I wouldn't have it any other way. sometimes leisure pro has mk17's and they usually have mk2+'s but I really prefer the prices at Scuba store. Online Scuba gear and Scuba equipment shop. even with paying to ship things over the pond.

the mk2+ are inexpensive piston first stages with a great track record and they will work great for most anything you do, a local guy dives them to over 200 feet with no problems.

If you have the ability to get regs in either a DIN or yoke fitting, spring for DIN and buy the adapter. your reg with have a higher resale value and you can then dive most any tank you will find.

I would suggest that the best regulator is Atomic. No other regulator in the entire industry has the features these work horse regs have:
1) They will never corrode as they are built of metals that resist corrosion. Titanium, Monel, 316 Stainless Steel and Zirconium.
2) Nitrox ready to 40%
3) Patented Seat Saving Orfice and Automic Flow Control - No reg has these but Atomic
4) Mteal Combination determines the price.
5) All Atomic regs perform the same which is the best in the industry!
Atomic Z2 $439.00US
New Atomic Z2X $550.00US
Atomic B2 $725.00US
Atomic M1 $699.00 US
Atomic ST1 $899.00 US
Atomic T2X $1,549.00 US

You will be happy you chose Atomic!

Just my 2 cents. If you can get this one, you might want to check it out. Going price is around $370 or so right now. I have used the XS Scuba Tri-Metal SeaAir for several years now. IMO, can't be beat for the price. It was THE best breather in any price category when hooked to breathing machine and tested by ScubaLab, best buy, top muscle reg, etc, etc. I love mine and can notice no difference b/t the surface and 130 feet. Extremely solid construction. This had the top scores in every category when tested... very solid buy in my eyes. Personally, I don't mind shipping mine off for annual testing. It's only a couple of weeks out of my dive year.

This is the description off of XS Scuba's website;
