XS Scuba:
Hey WWD,
Good idea. I was just on Skype with the guys in Thailand. So, I have them making up a sample of the new MA215 Fusion Low Volume Purge Mask with the Gauge Reader positive diopters lenses added. All black with black silicone skirt. Send me a PM is about 60 days I should have the sample by then. You can be the first to test dive it (after me). I appreciate the good words for XS Scuba.

Hey WarmWaterDiver. Is that fast enough for you? I have been telling everyone.......XS is the group to watch!

Pretty quick - just minor lag from here :D :D :D

Mike, no one could ask for better focus on feedback from the end user. Maybe you could do an inspirational guest speaker event at Microsoft on this, for a big fee??

Seriously, I have a trip to Curacao the last 2 weeks of March, then probably not another dive trip until labor Day, so it would suit the product development better if you had someone else try out the prototype. If the prototype works out, I'll gladly try one in early September!

I have considered coming up with new specialty C-cards for local diving in the area I currently live. These would be:

Echolocation - a regional sub-specialty of the Navigation specialty c-card. Required to navigate through the local waterways, and essential for avoiding in-water encounters with alligators, water moccasins, and snapping turtles. No dive computer or SPG needed since you have to surface to read them anyway.

Pirouge Diver - subspecialty of the Boat Diver specialty c-card. Two dives required, one using giant stride entry and one with backroll entry. The objective is to get your depth gauge or dive computer deep enough to actually register a dive. Multiple entries for the same dive are allowed, in the same spot, to try to get deep enough by wallowing a hole.

I got a Fusion Purge during my certification (along with the Sedona Dry snorkel), and it's been absolutely great. My only quibble with the split-pane design is the weird refractive gap underwater (when dry it's seamless), but the quality and purge system are all first-rate.

Yep, all of it is the real McCoy. Same factory, same people, same tooling, same quality materials, same, same, same... The first container will deliver early in May.

This question is not about masks. THe questions is about your rolling duffel bag.

My wife liked your rolling duffel and bought three of them (one for each family member).

However there is a shortcoming with them. The pull handle is too short so you have to stoop over a bit to have the duffel roll properly.

My wife and I are about 5' 6" tall so the problem is not that an overly tall person is using the product.

Other than this shortcoming we like the bag itself. Do you have any suggestions for correcting this shortcoming in an otherwise excellent product?

Hey WarmWaterDiver...would you be willing to instruct on that Echolocation specialty here in the PNW? I realize it's coldwater...but I'm certain my SO and I could have used it to deal with the seal that buzzed us (grabbed my fin, the little SOB!!) out of the dark and didn't even have the common courtesy to give us more than a quick arc out in front before disappearing into the green/black! ;) On second thought...diving in an area frequented by Whites, maybe I don't really WANT to be able to echolocate... :)

Cheers,
Austin

Rick, years ago, I got my kicks in a variety of ways. Now I am just a boring old guy that sells scuba equipment. These days, when I am not working 80 hours a week at Dive Sports, I spend my spare time sleeping, reading court decisions, and scanning supplier catalogs. Wow, I didn't even realize how boring I have become. Thanks. lol

Phil....

it sounds like you need to get out and go diving. I can reccomend a great trip in July we are going on a liveaboard if you want to go? Think you might be able to make it?

Anyone got a regulator he can borrow? :D

Austin,

I don't have instructor status; I didn't grow up in this area which puts me at a disadvantage. We moved here in mid-July 2005.

I figure the IDC for Echolocation is probably a stone beyotch. The weed-out rate would be pretty high, but could be reduced if you don't wash out anyone who winds up requiring amputation or antivenom more than once each during the course, or some such twist to the rules. Might reduce the dive professional insurance premium for this specialty that way. But for anyone who comes down here for the course, using it in cold water ought to be a piece of cake! You could write off a Mardi Gras excursion as a business trip that way!:D

Instructors could be famous after invting Mike Rowe of 'Dirty Jobs' to visit for a day. Mike thought the folks working at the alligator farm were crazy. As Justin Wilson used to say - I guarantee!

Does your mask have the clear silicone or black silicone skirt?

I tried both black & clear silicone skirt masks when I started diving and I decided fairly early I prefer masks with black silicone skirt instead of clear to minimize extraneous reflections, my new Fusion Purge is that same design. I tried a Scubapro Tri-vent mask with clear silicone skirt a few years ago and had a similar complaint, plus the strap didn't fit me optimally - I always felt a pinching around my temples, I don't think that design had swivel buckles.

I'll let you know how my black silicone Fusion Purge works out after I get back in April.
