The prototype mask hasn't show up here. I won't be able to give a report until our next trip. But I really appreciate the effort, especially with all the acquisitions XS Scuba has going on these days!

Well, the neighbors are helping keep an eye on stuff for us while we're gone, so I'm sure if it shows up they'll make sure it isn't left outside as gator chow for a fortnight.

And, we're all checked in on-line for our flights, so it's all over but the packing.

Happy St. Patricks Day!

Having a great trip anyway with my new XS Scuba Fusion Purge mask I bought before we started tossing ideas back and forth. About 2/3 of our trip left to enjoy!

Mike, the prototype mask arrived the day after we left (it arrived the afternoon of Monday March 19). Neighbors took it in so it didn't become gator bait; I picked up some scotch bonnet based pepper sauce for them as a thank-you gift. I'm curious how it'll go over with them as they're born and bred Louisianans.

I tested the prototype mask by reading my wife's petite ladies' watch and I think this will work out to be a good option for XS Scuba to offer (gauge readers plus purge). I found the purge system on my Fusion Purge to be the easiest such system I have used on any dive - and I've owned and tried a variety of purge masks. So, I'm looking forward to trying out the prototype mask next trip.

Let us know when the X-straps will be available - I'd like to have one along to test the mask with the regular strap vs. the X-strap while I'm at it. I had a small issue with the Fusion Purge moving around on my face a bit during the dives as I smiled, frowned, crinkled my face up squinching to see something tiny, etc. The combination of the magnifying lenses in the lower portion plus X-strap will likely each serve to help minimize this.

Keep up the great work!

There have been a lot of mergers, aquisisions and joint-marketing-agreements in the dive industry in recent years. Aqualung (formerly US Divers) now owns Apex, DeepSee, Seaquest and Suunto. Scubapro is now Scubapro/Uwatec. Oceanic and Aeris always have been the same company (like Ford/Mercury or Chevy/Pontiac).

I know that XS Scuba has been aquiring other companies. Oceanmaster may have been one of them.

Hey CatFish:
You're mostly correct. Though this time we're acquiring just the products, not the company. Look for the new M-Line Masks and Snorkels to be available next month.

Hey WWD:
I'm looking forward to your review after you get that mask underwater. Oh well, we just missed the last trip. Though you're all set for the next one.

I have the X-Strap completed now and ready to snap right is place of the standard strap. Give me a call prior to the next trip and I'll send one out for your testing.

Thanks Mike - will do!

)Mike,

I missed giving you a call before we left - too hectic right before we left with our work obligations - but I wanted to tell you I've tried out the prototype mask and once I got it adjusted correctly, it's the most comfortable mask I've worn yet. We're in Hawaii for two weeks to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary (Aug. 31) and my 45th birthday (today).

The gauge readers work well - maybe even a bit too well! During a dive at Two Step on the Big Island yesterday, I noticed something like rolled up paper down in the sand between some coral heads. I got closer, and thought it was play money - you know, the extra large gag bills sold at dollar stores. While I was pondering who in the world would take play money out on the water with them, I picked the wad up and unrolled it to find $27 in legit US currency as sunken treasure litter - and it was normal size after all!

I showed the mask to the guy who runs South Kona Scuba and he was interested, as well as a couple who were in the shop at the same time we were (the woman turned to the man and immediately told him "That's what you need - bifocals!"). So, there's definitely a market segment out there if XS Scuba wants to chase it.

Thanks again, and I'll post more once we return from our trip.

Hey WWD:
I'm figuring I ought to have about $13.50 headed my way. Naw that's cool, just keep it as my birthday gift. Thanks for the great review of the mask. I just got back from Maui last night, sure is a nice place for a little R&R. Hope you have a nice vacation.
