Hi folks, I've had an xdeep for several months now. I really like it, I have a review on my blog;

I Are Diver: Review: xDeep Black BT OLED bottom timer

I'm happy to answer any Q's you might have.

Hth

Great review Andy - that was most informative and enjoyable to read. May I ask, how have you been finding the battery life? I know in some earlier versions of another OLED BT, battery efficiency was not very good. How are you finding the Black and do you use an auto-dim feature to extended battery life?

Thanks

I've had the timer since November, and tbh I have only done about 6 dives with it (weather!!!!), and I haven't charged it yet. Took it out 2 weeks ago and it was at 40%, so I find it good.

No, I don't have a dim feature in use. I figured I wanted a bright oled display, that's what I paid for, so I keep the brightness up full. It is lovely and bright.

I just treat the timer as I do my can light, I know I can get 'x' many hours, but just charge it in between dives anyway. I've been experimenting to see how long the xdeep lasts. I admit I was quite surprised. Seems grand.

Are you using it as a timer or do you have/are you getting the EANx or Trimix upgrades?

£220 for a bottom timer is a lot of cash. What are the upgrade costs (ntx & trx)? I like the look of the compass. No Bluetooth and very bulky USB?!? The unit looks solid and very good overall.

Timer only for me. I have no plans to get the upgrades.

Each upgrade is £175.

The compass is very good, but tbh I don't really use it. The USB is inoffensive, I don't find it bulky. Personally I like the fact it doesn't require a cradle like the LQ XEN etc.

Yeah, I was very disappointed with the scratch. I did it on the first dive. The only plus was once I had a screen protector in place, the scratch vanished. :)

The expense is relative. The only alternative is the LQ XEN, and it's £389 - making the xdeep more appealing.

An 'ordinary' timer is £89, but they have zero functions and are LCD. The xdeep is double the price, but is certainly twice a uwatec feature wise.

The xen is still better, but overall the xdeep is good value.

I wouldn't consider this for a trimix computer; I'd go OSTC or SW hand down.

So £570 ($950) if you want to dive trimix then? Same price as Petrel.......

AJ, that's exactly right. I think from US distributors it's like $29 less than the Petrel. However, if you want an awesome EANx computer but don't want to shell out for a full Trimix computer.....it's a couple hundred cheaper. Having said that, I've got a Petrel now and would've got a Petrel even if the xDeep Blacks WERE available.....and I have no intention of diving helium in the forseeable future. I was looking for a good nitrox Tech computer, and would've (did) happily paid the extra money for the Petrel.

Although I haven't tried the Xen, from what I've been reading and seeing so far, I actually prefer the Xdeep Black. I like the smaller size and rugged look, the display, the compass, the buttons rather than the tap, and it's upgradeable - this is really hard to beat. Perhaps the only thing I like on the Xen better is the angle of viewing.

Have been seriously considering a Petrel but it may be overkill as i would only use it as a nitrox computer or BT. Still, I wouldn't mind finding one under a Christmas tree!
