I wonder if the "ignore the following forums" option has disappeared forever.
It has indefinitely.
Currently there is no forum exclusion. That was a hack that was installed on the old site, and is not supported in vBulletin 4.1. There is no update for that right now. If something becomes available... I'll put it in.

Trying to figure out, why I couldn't quick-rate some pics this morning, keep getting a message, saying, that I'm not allowed to post or edit.
Any advice?

I wonder if the "ignore the following forums" option has disappeared forever. I'll check back every now and then to look for it if it is just a temporary issue. SB is too big to sort through 5-15 pages of new posts.

It has indefinitely.

Since, as Howard has said elsewhere, no one has come up with an ad-on or hack to put back this highly popular function (not just SB but on many similarly busy forums), maybe we need to start brainstorming on workarounds. You go away on a long weekend dive trip and can come back to 400-600 updated threads (estimating from past New Posts overloads), the majority of which are in forums in which most people are individually not regularly interested. The large undifferentiated volume makes it harder to ignore the noise and even see what may interest individuals. Most readers aren't interested in spending a lot of time routinely and repeatedly digging to find the interesting bits and this decreased usability would tend to push people away from the site, at a minimum because they're no longer seeing threads which previously interested them because they're so deeply buried further back in the heap, under the more frequently updated chat threads.

Maybe one workaround would be to have a separate New Posts option which excluded certain subforums. For example, regional forums are individually of minimal interest to the vast majority, but if the last day or so is any indication, make up a substantial fraction of total thread updates. Similarly, most manufacturers may not be of general interest on a day-to-day basis. Another possibility is the classifieds.

While I appreciate the suggestion... your hypothesis on Regional Forums is totally wrong. Regional Forums are extremely popular, and some of them are our most heavily trafficked sub-forums on the site (#3 most popular forum is a regional forum). A special New Post button to suit your needs may not suit the needs of others.

Actually, that's not what I meant about regional forums. As a collection, regional forums are undeniably very popular. However individually, they're only popular with the people that frequent each specific regional forum. But for probably just about everyone, they're not interested on an everyday basis in the other 99% of regional forums that they're not regularly involved in.

But general exclusion from new posts would not be overall desirable to everyone. Hopefully someone creates a custom solution like the old version of vBulletin had.

Yeah, and I also get that screen jump(all grey with some stuff on the left) after posting a reply. BTW, agree with you on the regional forums, got quite a bit of good info in there, definitely a keeper.
