Paradise Reef same thing on Santa Rosa the other day, Dive House cattle boat on S.R. Notice the double hose regs the.

What is your point about double hose regs?

Once I was on a nice leisurely night dive on Paradise Reef with five other divers and a DM when a cattle boat pulled up and dropped about 20 divers right on top of us. They were coming down all around us; it reminded me of a scene from The Abyss. Most of them appeared to be novices, flailing around with their hands and running into things, shining their lights in our faces, trying to get past us to see what our DM had found, and just being generally obnoxious. Our DM gathered us together off to the side and we waited until they got past us so we could move off in a different direction. We wasted a lot of our bottom time dealing with it, though. Why did they drop in on top of us like that? Couldn't they see our lights? Grrrr...

That is a very bad DM to drop a group on top of another group. Christi's DM Pedro has moved us or had us wait a bit on the boat when he has seen divers down on the reef near where we were going to roll into. Seems like common courtesy to me, but like common sense it lacks in far to many people.

Looks like a Seahunt remake? I heard Lloyd Bridges in my head looking at it. The round mask, double hose? What's the deal? Or is their rental gear THAT old? :0

How about a new rule? When five dive boats are on a site, the rest must go somewhere else?

When I did my marine park course, there was a brainstorming session about how to improve the diving and dive sites in general. This was suggested, and then shot down by all the operators in attendance as something that "just won't work." There is an unfortunate lack of wanting to work together on this island, in my opinion.

Christi asked?

I was kinda caught off guard by the DH regs, and old school gear. At first I thought I was sent back in time
and started looking for Jacques Cousteau or the Calypso....

Then I thought it might be Sand Dollar Rental gear.... :D

Then I realized it was a group of those Vintage Mafia Divers...... :eyebrow:

Hey now.. Don't make fun of my diving equipment :-) I routinely sport a double hose regulator and vintage "style" mask when diving in Cozumel.

I'm wondering if those pictures were from the Scuba Club Cozumel (not Dive House) group from Vintage Double Hose (VDH). A bunch of people from VHD were just in Cozumel this past November.

On a side note, just because it looks old doesn't mean it actually is.. VDH has been designing/prototyping an entirely new double hose regulator called the Argonaut Kraken that is made from entirely new modern parts.

Ohhh OK - I didn't look at all of the pictures - just did and saw the picture at the end! Now I get your comment :)

I would suspect that the reason it wouldn't work is that there are far more dive boats going out every morning than there are dive sites. It's really not that big of a deal; I see other boats on virtually every site I go to, but seeing other divers at depth is nowhere near as common. In fact it's relatively rare. Occasionally we will get to a smaller site that has a bunch of boats there already with divers not yet into the water and the DM will say "Let's go someplace else" and we do. The dive community on Cozumel is very close knit and the rivalry among ops is surprisingly good natured. Contrary to what you say, the ops work together a lot.

There are dive operators who are aware of these potential issues and strive to avoid them by providing a service that gets you to that morning dive site you want before others pile up on it.
