OOOH I want to take a guess here, I believe the drier than a Pommies towel is a crack at the cultural lack of hygiene rampant in England. Lack of hygiene = lack of showers = lack of moisture on towel

Am I right?

I think you'll find the correct English would be 'drier than a........'
Dryer is a noun, as in 'tumble dryer'.
