So what's so hard then about multiplying by "1" or "2" for starting gas consumption rate figures? Easier than figuring out a deco algorithm, but just as vital.

I'm asking a heuristic problem solving objective question on-topic (not proffering "advice" Pete --don't YOU get?): You can't multiply by 1 bar/min, and perform simple subtraction arithmetic from a full pressure tank without AI???
