I used to love my dive computer as it seemed wonderful after using tables. Then I would forget to program the 2nd dive for 36% percent instead of 21% and either have to cut my dive short, do a long deco or violate the computer. The computer would then have an inaccurate profile of my dives for that trip. Lately I've been using it as a guage because it doesn't trust me to make my own decisions. Damn computer!
vytec? ..........

oh, no, we can go on for another 200+ posts on any of the following topics (off the top of my head):

- snorkels
- pony bottles
- spare airs
- bungee wings
- double bladder wings
- jacket BCs
- split fins vs. jets/turtles
- d-rings on the right side
- right/left for hot/cold mix
- CCR rebreathers
- which hoses come off which posts on doubles
- independent doubles vs. manifold
- isolation manifold vs. non-isolation manifold
- shallow helium vs. deep air training
- gavins vs. x-scooters
- East Coast DIR vs. West Coast DIR
- tic-tac-toe deco
- the word 'stroke'
- the word 'DIR'

This is why there needs to be a separate DIR forum. Others just wouldn't understand.

Thalassamania:
Just add it to the prohibited dirty word list, it will come out ****** and we'll all have to type it at s*t*r*o*k*e!

direxplorers does that. i made a post about swimming and got ******'s littering my post...

There are benefits to DIR but also some aspects that are not always the best for some divers, I believe. If a diver is much more used to diving with his/her setup, that might be the safest for them at the moment. I think most people dive with some aspects of DIR but not all.

In my opinion, the few benefits I could achieve from a several hundred dollar DIR class would not be worth the money rightnow. If I were a more technical diver, maybe. I would rather get my AOW than take a DIR class right now, I think AOW would help me be a better diver. I would get more bang for my buck. Who knows, in a few years I could be diving in places where it would behoove me to get a good deal of DIR training!

Okay lets take them one at a time and limit the debate to 200 posts. Unless you want to debate that too.

Really, I do NOT know what the "STROKE" thing is. Is it an acronym??

TheRedHead:
after sitting on a reel in a pair of doubles, I have a problem with the reel on the butt d-ring.

Don't remind me. I sat on a borrowed DR reel (plastic) in class the other week. Owner of the reel was in the water watching me. Another reason to use Delrin/Delrin & Aluminum.

you got to be more careful with your butt, that's all

(did i... just... say that?)

a stroke is like, Soggy

yeah... that's the ticket

stroke: a diver who will get you killed under water. became an adjective to describe anything dangerous or stupid (stroke gas mix, stroke configuration, stroke dive planning.

many people, incorrectly, state that a "stroke" is anyone who is not DIR. i don't think anyone other than George Irvine III (more or less a "founder" of DIR) and maybe a few acolytes actually believe that.
