One last post to get this thread back on the value of the course.
I have no intention of taking Tech 1 anytime in the next 12 months and I failed my Rec Triox shortly after taking DIRF.
I was originally dissapointed in DIRF when I took it, not because of any fault of my instructor (who was excellent) and not because it did or did not expose some weaknesses in my diving (which it did) but because I was expecting more material. Having later exchanged emails with my instructor reguarding the course I came to the conclusion I just had impractical expectations, given the inherent time constraints there just wasn't room for more. I should probably mention that the majority of my dives post open water had been with an experienced DIR buddy, although I had only just adopted the long hose at the time I took the course.
Triox on the other hand was a course I thoroughly enjoyed, it was something of an epiphany, it changed the way I looked at a lot things in diving, problem management in particular. A lot of the course wasn't new, but the course really put it all in perspective. Funnily it was a course I expected very little from when I agreed to take it.
I don't think DIRF is for everyone and I certainly don't think that Rec Triox is for everyone, but I think both courses have their place. For those who have take a DIRF and are looking to further improve their diving I think Rec Triox is a great option.
And just for Genesis' benefit, no I'm not being paid to right this crap.
