two US4 first stages for doubles, and a DST first for a stage bottle.

Purchased at DiveINN (Spain) and EZScuba (Tampa)...don't recall prices, but they were all very affordable.

Why? They are high-performance, high-quality equipment, and they came recommended by people I know who were doing advanced tech profiles.

I used Poseidon Cyklons (300/5000) for 10 years prior to the Apeks.

I bought mine because I knew it was reliable, won't freeze up in the cold water I dive in, breathes well, and was cheap as all get out.

I picked up an entire DS4/TX40/TX40 package for, IIRC, about $325.

[edit]Actually it was $220. Yeah.

Not to repeat myself but, what does that DS4 stand for? I understand it is first stage right? But is it a acronym for something?

DS4 stands for "dry sealed 4-port" more or less. The 40 and 50 normally come with a DST or "dry sealed turret" which is the same except it has a rotating swivel for one of the LP ports.

Don't mean to hi-jack this thread, but am curious as to how you feel about the differences between the Cyklons and the Apeks.

I am interested because I also dive with Poseidon, but am always on the lookout for other great gear.

Thanks

Cheap. Good. No where near as good breathing as my aqualung legend lx s but pretty good.

I find that odd considering people say the legend and atx 200 are similar/the same and then other people say the ds4 is the atx 200 internally sans the second hp port. So through logical deduction one would conclude that the ds4/atx50 is the same deal as the legend as well. It clearly, through first hand experimentation, is not.

Which leads me to believe that most people haven't got the slightest clue what they are talking about and spend a lot of time repeating someone elses "struth" like its the gospel with no end of heartfelt conviction.

Hmm...Oh well. Breathable none the less.

Well- my original rig was a MK25AF/S600T. After a free-flow at 120ft in 32 degree water I did a little research. Living in Chicago and knowing a LOT of cold water diving was in my future I decided to do a little research. The choices were Mares Abyss, Posidon & Apeks. Mares only does 2 years on their warranty. Posidon has some service availability issues in some locales. And there are TONS of glaring positive reviews of Apeks gear around. I have an ATX200. If I did it again, I'd go w/ the DS4/ATX50. Same guts/internal design specifics, less cost.

My ScubaPro regs are destined to become my warm water gear.
