Hey fellow Scuba Nutz!

So I'm pretty certian I'm going to be buying something along these lines....I'd just like to hear Why you bought your apeks cold water friendly regulator.

No brand bashing / poisidon is better etc etc etc PLEASE

I'm interested in hearing what you have (1st Stage, 2nd Stage and Octo), how much you paid for it, and why you chose your Apeks regulator over other brands.

Thanks & Happy Diving!

Hi JJ,

I eventually decided to get the Apeks ATX100 first stage, ATX50 second stage and ATX50 octo. I was going to go for the cheaper DS4 first stage but wanted the additional HP port that the ATX100 first stage has.

As for why I chose Apeks, mostly it was based on the repuation of the company and the advice given here on these boards. Also like having a reg that handles the cold well incase i travel to a cold water destination.

I bought my TX100 after reading a lot of reviews, trying regs that my friends use and borrowing a TX100 from another friend. I found that I had less bubble interference than with the smaller 2nd stages although none of the regs I tried were really annoying. I just liked the balance and Apex's reputation for reliability and cold water performance.

Well I had a Scubapro Mk25 /S550 (about a year old at the time, just serviced)and my dive bud had an ATX200, when we did air share drills I just didnt want to give the reg back It worked soo good and delivered so much more air! My other dive bud has an AT20 and Apeks lowend first stage and again his worked great too, so after hearing about their warrenty I decided my reg $$ was going to Apeks.

Hi,

I just bought my first ever reg (ATX200 + ATX40 octopus) this weekend. I did some research on the web and some stores, and decided that the Scubapro Mk25/S600/X650, Aqua Lung Legend series and Apeks ATX200 or ATX50 looked like my favorites. This based on quality, reviews, price and availability and service locations.

In the end I decided on the ATX200 + ATX40 on basis of:
1) The many posts, comments, reviews here on this board. The almost religious following for Apeks made me conclude that these regs must be something special.
2) The very positive reviews on divernet.com, rodale's, divemagazine.co.uk, etc.
3) The professional 'image' of Apek's.
4) The suitability for cold-water diving. Although I'm a hardcore warmwater diver (I consider the Red Sea quite chilly..) you never know where this hobby might take you, and it is nice to know that you are prepared.
5) But the clincher was the good deal I got by my LDS on the ATX200/40 combination, even better than the 'basic' Legend (not the LX) and way better than the Scubapro gear.

Cheers,
Menno

DS4/TX50 * 2

Solid, inexpencive reg. Hose routing is good for singles or doubles. Performance is outstanding, even in 32F water.

All DIN

1 DS4/ATX 200 7' hose primary
1 DS4/ATX 50 backup (used to be primary)
1 DS4/TX 40 on a deco bottle

All sweet regs, relatively inexpensive, and breathe phenominaly. Very serviceable. I took the advice of people on this board and others.

This may sound stupid but is DS4 an acronym for something? Or is that the actual name of the first stage.

hmmmm. Only 6 people willing to share their personal reasons behind buying apeks?

kinda dissapointing.

personally...... it matched my outfit the best and the yellow face plate really brought out the highlights in my hair. ;)

no, i bought it because i had tried my buddies several times over the past 2 years and loved it. plus i am a cold water only diver, the great lakes. so, a great preforming cold water reg was important. not to mention the awsome deal i got on it, a tx100 1st and 2nd. with a tx50 octo.
