I log anything other than pool dives, although I don't count aborted dives if they are arborted in under 20 minutes. Keeping data on errors is at least as important and logging trouble free dives.

I dive in a number of different environments (hot, cold, salt, fresh, currents or placid) with enough different gear combos (several wet suit configs, drysuit, aluminum or steel) that I may go for months before matching conditions. I'd never keep track of the weighting without a log.

Vixyswillie here is a copy of my dive log page. I dont have anyone sign it but you could add that block in. I do it on the computer then print it and put it in my dive log. I use a three ring binder to keep them in. I also turn my dive log into a project kinda like a scrap book where I have photos and all my gear info, contact info and emergency data. You can carry it to the divesite tape a couple quarters to it then if there is an emergency someone can call for help as long as there is a payphone nearby.

It would not let me upload the divelog page because it is invalid format so if you pm with your email address I will send you a copy.

Is it standard practice to have someone sign it, or no?

Do you have a dive computer that sends some of the info to your computer to import into Excel?

How cool an idea is that?! Thanks for the great tip - I'll remember that one for sure.

Done - thanks much! ;)

Getting a signature is something taught in basic scuba class and It is a very good idea. Me personally I do a lot of solo dives so I have no one to sign my book (I've asked a couple fish but they refused LOL). AS far as dive operaters reviewing your book before a specific class or before diving a specific sight I dont know if they require signatures or not. I would like to think they would trust you until you did something to prove you are not trustworthy. In my opinion it is just as easy to forge the signature as it would be to forge a fake dive log. As far as the data entered into my dive log it is all done by hand. I have a downloadable computer but not sure if it is worthy over $100 just to get a copy of my dive profile.
Happy diving

I log every dive as well as every little bit of info on that dive.

The smallest detail has helped.

I log every OW dive. I plan on continuing my cert level so I need to keep it. It's also good to look back on and remember them. I usualy write some very interesting and humerous comments as well so it's fun to reread it.

I log everything. My rule of thumb is 15' for 15 minutes, but I've not had a dive that doesn't meet either criteria.

For those of you who don't log aborted dives, why not? Seems like there might be some mighty good lessons to be remembered in a dive that went wrong. I pay special attention to those.

I never logged a single dive between 1961 and 2000. There never seemed to be any need to since I did all my diving on Catalina waters, had a compressor, etc..

Then I decided I wanted to do internatural diving. Before I left a former student of mine (I taught marine bio on SCUBA) said it would be a good idea to have a dive log to verify my diving history while traveling.

I started to log every dive in June, 2000, and am pushing 550 now. The logbook definitely helps prove diving experience although some shops still watch me dive since my original cert was in 1969 (freshwater diving in midwest before that, no such thing as PADI then).
