Let me repost my original response to the question:
Who is the "final word" as to what is DIR?

GI3 sets DIR for WKPP
Of this there can be no doubt!

JJ & AG set DIR for GUE
This is perhaps where some of the controversy and speculation lies.... just how much variance is there between the various GUE instructors as well as divergence from WKPP DIR?

look how simply that was answered

Here is the perfect opportunity for you to seize the moment and start a thread.

As with pretty much every topic, that thread already exists. His opinion is there, so is mine.

Actually that doesn't answer it at all. That simply states a known fact. The question, if you read it, was which one is followed by more DIR divers.

I think your sole purpose on this board, either so far or lately, is to start arguments and I, for once, will avoid that.

Is it not correct to assume that DIR is a philosophy, therefore there are no "Set Rules"?
If something is deemed as the "Right" and "Safe" way, and a better option comes along, DIR philosophers would accept that method?

I know at present there is not much room to move on equipment, but thats because there are no better options. DIR divers DO use the best there is.

I see DIR as a living and growing thing, as opposed to a set of rules that a group of people have set.

as far as the pole goes I think it added an important factor to the whole issue.

most of the people on this board anyways get their DIR/GUE information from UNCLE PUG.
this is very important to realize as I have been stating lately you should consider your source. this proves that even unwillingly he is teaching people the DIR/GUE way

not that it is bad, but we all know the others, their background and qualifications to be able to stand on thier soap box and preach.

To quote myself, I believe this is the answer to your question

and I agree with you I have been a little argumentative lately. I got rubbed wrong by some statements. I will back off a little

IME, Pug doesn't come out and say something is DIR or not. He usually points out that doing something a specific way is better, and then points out why. I suppose this is DIR, but I don't see him say "DIR dictates.." or anything.

In any case, the things he says are generally easily verified, and often he provides a reference or link himself.

have selected The Pugster as THEIR last word for things DIR, might I be so presumptuous as to suggest we change the acronym just a tad. My first thought was to just replace "Right" with "Pug", but they might take offence at being called "DIP Divers". So I heartily endorse a four letter acronym that would written "DIUP" but said "Do It UP", which would be a catchy phrase that would not offend the fine sensibilities of those who hate to think that they might be doing it wrong!

On a more serious note: Tom, while UP was added to the poll it was NOT pure levity that drove me to it. On the contrary, I think the Pugster has proven that he has the writing abilities and personal accumen that makes him a PERFECT spokesperson for DIR, his semi-humble request to the contrary notwithstanding. If I was merely trying for humor I would have picked either of two DIR divers on this board who have gone out of their way to harrass and intimidate non-DIR divers by acting like they really do know it all. Somehow, I feel Pug not only understands the bigger picture but has the humility to know when to choose his battles and how to persue them without being totally offensive.

Yes, yes, I do readily admit that I inflated his numbers for a tad, but those have been removed. The numbers represented on the poll are actual/factual votes. I did this not only to draw attention to this poll, but also for some humor at his exspense (you didn't think I was going to pay for it???). We are still on speaking terms, and I even told him about DIUP before I posted it here... of course, all he could say was "No, no Pete, please don't" which seemed to have prompted me to do it anyway. Go figure. Every now and then, you just GOT to stir the pot!

But Pete, if he asked you not to, why did you do it?
