I am wondering how is the local diving scene in Jacksonville. I have always driven right through Jacksonville towards Jupiter and the Keys which are the more advertised places. I was wondering if there are any locals from Jacksonville who could explain what diving is like in their immediate front yard? Any wrecks, reefs or caves in the immediate area that you like?

Cheers -

I did my DM training in Jacksonville (almost 20 years ago) with a shop that did regular trips to the ledges & wrecks off the Jax coast. This time of year the water is warming up so it can be a lot of fun. Vis was often 40 feet or more.

I use to be the first one off the boat. I'd take the anchor rode down to the bottom and either set the anchor or tie it off on a wreck. Lot's of good spear fishing for grouper. A lot of students (my wife included) did their Open Water dives off that boat.

When the shop owner wasn't teaching, he did commercial spear fishing off the Jax coast for days at a time.
